"Hi, Ms. Dalton. I'm Helen Lawson. You might not have heard of me before, but I'm Lawson Global's chairman's niece. I'm considered the cousin of Lawson Global's president, Sean Lawson, and Angeline's… aunt," Helen said.
Ingrid tensed at the mention of Angeline.
"Why are you calling me?"
"I was in contact with Mr. Fletcher before this, and we were talking about working together. But I've just received news of Fletcher Corporation's bankruptcy, and I can't reach Mr. Fletcher now.
"I had no choice but to call you, hoping that I could reach him through you. I just need an answer from Mr. Fletcher regarding our continued collaboration."
Helen sounded gentle and friendly. It would easily leave one with a good impression.
Still, Ingrid exercised caution.
"It isn't convenient for Ned to come to the phone now. I'll pass on your message when I see him later."
"Alright. Please do ask him to call me when you see him. Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to work with someone else," Helen said.
Ingrid left the bathroom after hanging up. She saw that Ned was awake and was trying to sit up.
She hurried over to put a pillow behind him, saying, "You're awake, Ned!"
Ned looked haggard.
He gazed at Ingrid for a while, swallowing before he said, "I agreed to remain engaged to you for another two months, Ingrid. But now that Fletcher Corporation's gone bankrupt, I can't help you with your career anymore.
"Why don't we just split up now? I know Simon has feelings for you but hasn't done anything about them because I'm your fiancé—"
"If I were to break up with you and get together with him immediately after Fletcher Corporation's bankruptcy, what would my fans think of me?"
