Secret Love One Cruel Lie for Revenge novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4 The Ceremony Goes On

On the morning of the wedding, I arranged for a gift to be delivered to the venue. By the time I reached the boarding gate, the announcement screens were already flashing final calls. I dialed Dominic while watching planes lift into the sky one after another. My voice, when he answered, was steadier than I felt.

“Dominic, most of the guests have arrived. The video and everything else are ready.”

Dominic responded politely to the person beside him before lifting the phone to his car.

“Kristen, where are you?” he asked, his tone shifting into that familiar softness. “Do you want me to come get you? I know it’s not proper for the groom to leave on his wedding day, but I can make an exception for you. He even added, almost indulgently. “If you don’t want me to have the wedding. I’ll walk out with you.”

Even now, he thought I was someone he could coax back with pretty words. I looked down at the boarding pass in my hand and felt something inside me settle into place. “Dominic,” I said slowly, “congratulations on marrying the woman you love.” For a moment, there was silence.

He laughed softly. “You’re the one I love. His confidence hadn’t cracked yet. “Be good. Send me your location. I’ll come right now.”

I ended the call. Then I blocked him everywhere-calls, messages, everything. When my flight number was announced, I picked up my bag and walked forward without looking back.

At the venue, Dominic paced near the stage, phone in hand, a crease forming between his brows. Something felt wrong, though he couldn’t yet name it. He kept glancing toward the entrance as if expecting me to appear at any second. The large screen behind the stage flickered, drawing murmurs from the guests.

The broadcast cut to breaking news.

“Flight HM995678 departing today has reportedly crashed into the sea.”

The hall erupted in gasps. A body hit the floor with a thud amid the chaos, someone collapsing in shock. My dad Thomas, pale as paper, stared at the screen with trembling hands.

“Kristen-Kristen was on that flight!” he shouted hoarsely.

Dominic’s world tilted.

He strode forward and grabbed my dad by the collar without thinking. “What did you just say?” His voice broke for the first time. ‘How could she be on that plane? When was she leaving the country?”

Thomas, stunned and confused, still answered honestly. “She was chosen by her school as an exchange student,” he said. “She was going abroad.”

In that instant, realization struck Dominic like a physical blow.

So the day she had gone to handle the visa… it had been for herself.

His friends exchanged uneasy glances, the weight of the situation settling over them. One of them spoke hesitantly, “Dominic… maybe we shouldn’t play the video now.” Another muttered, “Whatever this was, maybe it’s time to stop.”
