Chapter 7 Never Forgive
They said it was something incredibly important to him. Important enough that Dominic had used every connection he had to seal off the entire airport, ordering security to search passengers one by one. Even after everything, he still had that kind of power. Seeing he was still several rows away, I let out a quiet breath and told myself I could slip through.
Just as I stepped forward for inspection, a bodyguard suddenly grabbed my wrist. He yanked off the old hair tie I had worn for years and shouted, “Found it! Over here!” Before I could react, they forced me to the ground, my cheek hitting the cold airport tile.
I was too stunned to even process what was happening.
Footsteps approached, steady and deliberate. I instinctively turned my face away from Dominic, hoping that one glance wouldn’t be enough. But he closed the distance slowly, his expression dark as a gathering storm.
He took the hair tie from the bodyguard and crouched in front of me.
A rough hand gripped my jaw, forcing my face upward. The moment his eyes locked onto mine, something in him shattered and rebuilt itself all at once. “Kristen?” he breathed. “Is it really you?”
He kicked the bodyguards away and pulled me to my feet with trembling hands. I lowered my gaze immediately. “You’ve mistaken me,” I said calmly. “I don’t know you.”
“How could I?” His voice cracked. “I’d never mistake you.” He grabbed my hand again and pulled me into his arms. “I’ve been looking for you everywhere. Thank God… you’re alive.”
His joy felt overwhelming, almost frantic.
I remained still in his embrace, my expression flat, my heart unmoved. When I finally pushed him back, my voice was cool and distant. “Mr. Reynolds, I don’t know you. Please keep your hands to yourself.”
“If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”
Something in my eyes must have reached him, because he stumbled back as if struck. He didn’t try to touch me again. I didn’t stay to study his reaction – I simply turned and walked away.
I had barely stepped inside my house when my father’s car pulled up in a rush. Dominic must have told him. When I saw my father step out, my breath caught in my throat.
In just one year, he had aged decades.
Guilt flooded me so violently it was almost unbearable. I had wanted to protect him, yet I had nearly destroyed him instead. We ran to each other and held on tightly, both of us sobbing without restraint.
When we finally sat down, he cupped my face and said, “It’s enough that you’re home, my good girl. I thought I’d never see you again in this life.” His voice trembled, but there was relief in it too.
Through blurred vision, I asked the question that had lingered in my heart all this time. “Dad… what really happened between you, Dominic, and Brooke?”
Only after hearing everything did I understand how deeply Dominic had been misled. When he confronted Brooke with the video evidence, she had no explanation left. She clung to him, begging him not to leave her.
Then debt collectors appeared.
Brooke turned to him for help, pleading desperately. Dominic didn’t hesitate. He handed her over without a flicker of emotion.
That was Dominic.
