Medea tactfully refrained from asking further questions, instead shifting the topic to the upcoming celebration banquet.
When she mentioned it, Calvin remembered the matter about the dress and said that he had arranged it for her in advance.
“Really? Where? Let me see!” Medea ‘s eyes lit up with anticipation.
Calvin instinctively replied, “I asked Secretary Grant to pick it up.”
After a pause, he added, “But she’s off work now.”
“I’ll ask Sadie. She should know where it is,” Medea eagerly wanted to see the dress.
Calvin gave a silent approval.
Before leaving, Medea caught a glimpse of Calvin placing Eliza’s resignation letter into the drawer on his right side.
If she wasn’t mistaken, there were several resignation letters inside.
This meant that Eliza had long submitted her resignation, but Calvin hadn’t approved it yet.
This discovery stirred an uncomfortable feeling and a sense of crisis in Medea.
She wasn’t sure if Calvin was holding onto Eliza because he couldn’t bear to part with her, or if it was because of her abilities. Maybe he was just so accustomed to her that replacing her would be too much trouble.
But whichever reason it was, it was a variable for Medea.
She couldn’t allow this variable to exist.
Getting Calvin to approve Eliza’s resignation was an easy task.
All she needed to do was speak up, and Calvin would definitely agree.
But she felt that this would be too easy for Eliza.
Resignation and dismissal were two different concepts.
She wanted Eliza to never stand a chance in Washington again!
She wanted to create a rift between Eliza and Calvin, putting them on opposing sides!
She wanted Eliza to disappear from Calvin’s world forever!
Early in the morning, Eliza felt uneasy, like something was bound to happen today.
Calvin was absent from the office in the morning, and Eliza finally thought she could enjoy some peace, but Sadie came to find her with a pale, panicked face.
“Eliza, something’s happened!”

Sadie seemed frightened, her face was ashen, and her hands were shaking.
Eliza quickly asked, “What happened? Don’t worry, take your time and tell me.”
“The dress you picked up from ‘Luxe Atelier‘ the other day… it’s got a big tear!”
Eliza was startled. “Torn? How did that happen?”
She had personally ironed and hung the dress in the wardrobe after picking it up. How could it have randomly torn?
“I don’t know. Just now, Director Wynn said she wanted to try on the dress and found the tear. She asked me about it, and I couldn’t answer.” Sadie became more frantic, tears streaming down her face. “Eliza, what should I do? Director Wynn said that dress was really expensive…”
“I’ll go take a look. Don’t worry,” Eliza quickly headed for the storage room.
Medea was still there, and upon seeing Eliza, she raised an eyebrow. “I was just about to look for you, Secretary Grant. You picked up this dress, right?”
Eliza answered calmly, “Yes, I picked it up and ironed it myself before hanging it in the wardrobe. It was perfectly fine at that time.”
“Then what happened now?” Medea ‘s tone turned sharp, taking on a haughty air of authority. “Explain.”
Eliza first examined the tear. It was caused by external force, and the damage was located on the front, around the waist area, making it
impossible to repair.
“This dress was specially custom–made for me by Calvin a month ago from ‘Luxe Atelier‘. Not to mention the price, tomorrow’s the celebration banquet, and I was looking forward to wearing it. But now the dress is ruined. Who will take responsibility for this?”
Medea ‘s presence was overwhelming, and Sadie, standing nearby, didn’t dare to breathe too loudly.
“Has anyone else come into contact with the dress after you picked it up?” Eliza asked Sadie.
Sadie shook her head. “No, only Director Wynn wanted to try it on just now, and that’s when we noticed the tear.”
So, only two people had handled the dress from beginning to end, Eliza and Medea.
Although Eliza wasn’t sure if Medea had intentionally damaged the dress, she was sure that this incident was aimed at her.
She wasn’t someone who sought trouble, but that didn’t mean she was afraid of it.
Since the problem had come to her doorstep, she had no reason to avoid it.
“Sadie, ask the security department to check the surveillance footage,” Eliza immediately instructed.
Medea remained composed, seemingly unaffected by the incident.
After the security department conducted a check, Eliza received some useful information.
After the dress was picked up, only three people had entered the storage room and had the opportunity to come into contact with it–Eliza, Sadie, and Medea,
Unfortunately, there were no cameras in the storage room, so they couldn’t verify who had damaged the dress.
Sadie was the first to panic. “I swear, it wasn’t me! How could I ruin the dress? I couldn’t afford to pay for it if I sold everything I had!”
Medea sneered coldly. “Was it me? This dress was custom–made for me by Calvin. I treasure it so much, why would I ruin it? What would I wear tomorrow if I damaged it?”

Her words insinuated that the problem was with Eliza.
“Perhaps someone is jealous, deliberately ruining the dress to prevent me from attending the important banquet.”
Her insinuations led Sadie to glance at Eliza.
At that moment, Medea ‘s phone rang.
She glanced at the caller ID and immediately smiled sweetly before answering, “Calv, I was just about to call you. The dress you ordered for me got ruined.”
“I don’t know how it happened. Secretary Grant just checked the surveillance footage, and it turns out the dress was only handled by me, Sadie, and Secretary Grant.”
“Tomorrow’s the celebration banquet, and yet the dress gets ruined at this crucial moment. What a coincidence.”
Calvin asked Medea to pass the phone to Eliza.
Medea was reluctant, but she did as he asked.
When Eliza took the phone, she saw the contact name: “Dear Calv.”
It was hard to describe the intimacy.
It was the kind of closeness she had failed to achieve after seven years.
So, this was the power of his first love?
Eliza didn’t have time for self–mockery; after all, Calvin was still waiting on the other end.
“Mr. Young, this is Eliza,” she answered calmly.
“Did you do this?”
There were no preambles, no indirect inquiries. It was a direct accusation.
For a moment, Eliza felt like she had fallen into an ice pit. Her heart and chest felt like they were covered with a thick layer of ice, making her
limbs tremble.
She could accept his betrayal, accept his change of heart.
She could even accept going separate ways.
But what she couldn’t accept was being doubted and belittled!
After seven years of being together, she thought he at least understood her character. He should know that Eliza would never play the petty games that women engage in over jealousy.
Building a relationship with someone takes many days and nights, but it only takes a moment to destroy it.
Eliza took a deep breath before responding to Calvin’s accusation. “It wasn’t me.”
“Medea said only you and Sadie handled the dress. Sadle doesn’t have the courage to do that.”
“When did Mr. Young start deciding right and wrong based on subjective beliefs?” Eliza’s tone turned sharp.
Calvin was probably not expecting such a rebuttal, and after a brief silence, he remained quiet.
