Chapter 33
“Eliza, do you understand the impact that calling the police will have on the company?” Calvin’s face changed immediately.
Eliza understood.
But what did it have to do with her?
This was no longer the Everest she cared about, and there was no reason for her to make any sacrifices now!
So she stood her ground, her attitude firm, “I just want the truth.”
Perhaps it was the first time Calvin saw Eliza so determined, and he fell silent for a rare moment.
The atmosphere froze.
Eliza handed the phone back to Medea.
She hadn’t expected Calvin’s approval, nor did she anticipate that he would side with her in this moment.
She could only save herself.
Without hesitation, Eliza dialed the police.
Medea ‘s face changed, and she immediately said, “Calv, she called the police. You should come back now.”
Calvin arrived almost simultaneously with the police, likely concerned that Medea might feel wronged, so he had hurried back from wherever he was.
Eliza told the police everything, asking them to investigate and clear her name.
Since there were no surveillance cameras inside the storage room, the police suggested doing a technical assessment, such as fingerprint comparison, which, though troublesome, would accurately identify the ‘real culprit.‘
However, this could only proceed with the dress owner’s authorization.
In the end, it would still be up to Calvin’s approval.
Medea, unconsciously, moved closer to Calvin. “Calv, this matter could blow up. We need to prioritize the impact on the company.”
Calvin’s expression turned icy, his eyes scanning the room before landing on Eliza.
Eliza couldn’t help but shiver.
“Sorry, this is an internal company issue. We’ll handle it ourselves. Thank you for your help,” Calvin finally stated.
This was exactly what Eliza had expected, but hearing him say it out loud still made her heart twist.
The police, sensing that the matter could be handled internally, decided it was best to leave.
Once they left, Calvin appeared calm, but his eyes were sharp with a layer of icy coldness.
He asked Eliza, “Are you satisfied?”

Chapter 33
Eliza forced a smile, not bothering to hide her sarcasm. “Is Mr. Young blaming me?”
“You know how much calling the police would affect the company. Why did you have to do it?”
Calvin glared down at her, his eyes full of malice.
Eliza didn’t think she’d done anything wrong, so she met his gaze head–on, her voice firm.
“Because I don’t want to be falsely accused! Because I want my name cleared!”
“Or does Mr. Young think I, Eliza, should take the blame for this?”
“But why should I?”
She owed no one!
Especially not Calvin!
So why should she tolerate this? Why should she back down?
At this moment, Eliza was like a hedgehog covered in spikes, defensive against everyone, including Calvin.
This made Calvin feel unfamiliar with her.
It was as if he had never known her at all.
In his memory, she had always been obedient, never fighting back, understanding and considerate, someone who valued the reputation of Everest more than her own!
Sadie had never seen Eliza and Calvin clash so openly and couldn’t help but hold her breath in fear.
As the tension hung in the air, Medea spoke at the right moment, “It’s fine, Calvin. Maybe we’ve wronged Secretary Grant, and that’s why she’s
so upset.”
“After all, she’s been your secretary for so many years. You trusted her, which is why you didn’t go for a technical assessment. The truth doesn’t
matter that much now. Let’s just let it go.”
Eliza looked at her, finally witnessing the ugliness of human nature.
What a clever strategy, retreating to advance.
On the surface, it seemed like she was helping her out, but the underlying message was clear.
Calvin followed her lead, taking the opportunity to step back. “This matter is over. No one is to mention it again.”
He had never said a word in her defense.
This was his stance!
Eliza felt like something inside her was being torn apart. It was as if her entire being was in pain.
She had lost the desire to seek the truth.
After all, explanations were useless. Calvin had already condemned her in his heart, so why bother wasting words?
For a moment, she almost wished she had actually done it, so that Calvin could catch her and fire her.
That way, it would be a kind of relief, wouldn’t it?

Chapter 33
Medea, with a look of regret, fiddled with the dress. “Tomorrow’s the celebration banquet. What will we do about the dress?”
Calvin raised his eyes and scanned the wardrobe, his gaze finally settling on a white satin dress. “Try this one.”
The dress he pointed to was the one Eliza had had custom–made for herself.
It was the one that matched his hidden couple’s style.
When Medea saw the new dress, her excitement returned. “This one’s beautiful too. It seems perfect for me.”
The two of them carried on discussing the new dress without a care in the world.
Eliza, however, was drowning in the aftermath of the earlier storm, unable to break free.
She had had enough of this life!
She just wanted to end it all quickly.
So, to break the cozy bubble they had created, she sharply interrupted, “Mr. Young, when are you going to approve my resignation?”
As soon as Eliza finished speaking, both of them turned to look at her.
Calvin narrowed his eyes, studying her face.
It was as if he were trying to figure out her intentions.
Medea was a little surprised that Eliza would bring up her resignation at this point.
But she assumed Eliza was just testing Calvin, not really wanting to resign.
