Everyone was taken by surprise.

Including Eliza.

But she also felt a sense of relief.

She had finally reached this point.

In fact, when she realized that nothing she did was right, she knew.

She calmly said, “Alright, I’ll come to handle my resignation formalities on Monday.”

Gideon frowned after Eliza left, muttering to himself, “This can’t be true, right? Is she really willing to leave?”

He didn’t believe it.

“Bro, I’m coming to hang out with you on Monday,” Gideon was determined to watch this drama unfold.

“Suit yourself.” Calvin responded indifferently, showing no emotion.

Tonight’s cocktail party was quite a fruitful one for Eliza.

Of course, the biggest gain was that Calvin had approved her resignation.

So, for the latter half of the night, Eliza drank freely, and if Josh hadn’t stopped her, she might have stayed until she was completely drunk.

“You’ll need some hangover soup when we get back, or your head will hurt like crazy tomorrow morning,” Josh reminded her.

“Got it, Senior. Has anyone ever told you, you’re really talkative!”

Eliza, slightly tipsy, was more relaxed than usual.

“What did you call me?” Josh paused.

“I feel like I’m gonna throw up.”

Josh, “…”

To prevent her from embarrassing herself in public, Josh guided her to the restroom.

“Be careful, call me if you need anything.”

Since it was the women’s restroom, he couldn’t go in.

Eliza didn’t throw up, probably because Josh had kept a close watch on her, making sure she ate something in between drinking.

Worried that Josh might be waiting too long, she quickly washed her face and was about to leave, but as she reached the door, she overheard a conversation from the hallway.

Fate had a funny way of crossing paths.

It was Gideon’s loud voice.

“Don’t worry, Medea. I’ll go to Everest to supervise Eliza on Monday. Even if she doesn’t want to resign, I’ll force her to! She won’t pose any threat to

you!”

“You really don’t need to worry about her. She’s no match for you at all!”

“But she’s been with Calvin for seven years.” Medea ‘s voice sounded somewhat melancholic.

“Seven years is a long time. Even if it’s just a cat or a dog, there’s bound to be some attachment. Let alone people.”

“You’re overthinking it! Men and women are different. I can guarantee that Calvin only sees Eliza as a tool! The kind he doesn’t even have to pay for! You see, Eliza’s been with Calvin all these years, and has he ever spent money on her? He hasn’t even given her a house. Even if he had a pet canary, he’d still need to make a cage for it. Eliza’s just a tool that he’s been sleeping with for free. No wonder I think so little of her.”

Medea was surprised, “Calvin… hasn’t spent any money on Eliza?”

Gideon answered confidently, “No! Haven’t you heard? Men only spend money on women they care about. This just proves that Calvin doesn’t care about Eliza. So you really don’t need to worry about her.”

“And she’s about to resign soon. Once she leaves Everest, she and Calvin will be like two parallel lines, never intersecting. So, you can rest easy.”

Medea seemed to be reassured by this, and her mood lifted a little.

“Then let’s go find Calvin. It’s getting late.”

As their footsteps grew fainter, Eliza finally stepped out of the restroom.

Seven years was indeed too long–long enough to see how quickly people could change, long enough for Calvin to get tired of her.

Eliza bit her lip, her eyes reddening slowly.

She stood in place, trying to calm herself for a long while, before slowly exhaling a deep breath.

Josh had other guests to entertain, so he couldn’t personally take Eliza home and called a driver for her instead. He reminded him to make sure she got home safely.

Before leaving, he draped his coat over her shoulders to keep her warm.

While the driver went to get the car, Eliza saw Calvin’s car pass right in front of her.

The interior was brightly lit, and Medea was gazing at Calvin, her eyes filled with stars as she happily spoke to him.

Calvin had his eyes slightly lowered, his side profile unusually gentle.

The car drove fast, and the cold wind hit Eliza’s face.

It really made her feel awake,

She pulled the coat closer around her and couldn’t help but feel, sometimes men weren’t even as useful as a piece of clothing,

At least in a winter night like this, clothes could help her fend off the cold.

The aftereffects of the wine hit her when she arrived home. Her head was a little foggy.

She leaned on the door for a while, struggling to open it.

Thankfully, she remembered to bring her keys; otherwise, she might not have been able to get in.

It was all Calvin’s fault. If it weren’t for him, she wouldn’t have had to change the locks, which now meant she had to carry keys every time she

left–what a hassle.

Drinking made her thirsty, but the fridge was out of water.

Eliza liked to drink ice water when she had a few drinks, but since there was none, she ordered some takeaway.

After about ten minutes of waiting, the doorbell rang.

The delivery was surprisingly fast.

Eliza didn’t think much of it and went straight to open the door.

To her surprise, it wasn’t the delivery person, but Calvin!

Eliza instinctively reacted and immediately tried to shut the door.

But Calvin quickly stepped forward, blocking the door with his leg.

Calvin’s chest rose and fell gently in the dim yellow light.

Eliza didn’t finish her sentence, “What do you want…”

Before she could finish, the man grabbed her chin and kissed her, not gently at all.

She tasted the lingering alcohol on his lips.

He must have been drinking for Medea at the event again.

This made Eliza uncomfortable.

She raised her hand and slapped Calvin across the face.

The slap was crisp and clear.

But since she had been drinking, there wasn’t much strength behind it, and she couldn’t even snap Calvin out of it. Instead, it seemed to stir something inside him.

Calvin was always dominant in these matters, and when Eliza was drunk, it was even more one–sided.
