“So, what’s your evaluation of my past seven years? I really want to know.”

Eliza repeated her question firmly.

Medea also wanted to know the answer, as it concerned Eliza’s position in Calvin’s heart.

Calvin’s eyes shifted momentarily, a brief storm passing through them before returning to stillness.

His voice remained as emotionless as ever, “My evaluation? As a secretary, she’s passable. As for projects… haha…”

That dry, indifferent laugh was enough to convey his attitude.

Disdain, mockery, contempt.

Even devaluation.

What she had traded seven years of her youth for was such a dismissive remark.

Perhaps loving too much was her greatest mistake.

Eliza’s face turned pale, and even though she had believed she wouldn’t feel anything, her heart still ached because of his disdain.

Thankfully, her heart had been hardened over the past seven years, allowing her to maintain a semblance of calm. “Seems like I’ve failed. But thank you for the feedback, Mr. Young.”

Without hesitation, she turned away, offering a polite glance at Henderson.

“Looks like Mr. Henderson’s decision to reject my application was the right choice. Sorry for the trouble. Goodbye.”

Calvin remained where he stood, watching her head toward the elevator, watching her slowly disappear from view.

Only when the elevator doors closed did Medea ‘s tense heart finally settle.

It seemed she had overthought everything. Calvin clearly didn’t care about Eliza at all.

Even when Eliza was in this much distress, Calvin showed no mercy.

Medea smiled, her mood lightening, “Calvin, shall we go now?”

Calvin nodded, “Mm.”

Eliza and Belle had a pleasant dinner.

She hid her emotions well, not letting a single hint slip,

In that moment, she was grateful for the self control she had built up over seven years in the business world, which allowed her to mask her feelings so perfectly that even Belle didn’t notice anything amiss.

No one knew that beneath her calm exterior, her heart was already torn to pieces, bleeding with emotion.

Belle didn’t even finish her meal when her agent called, telling her she had to go to another city for a night audition.

Eliza ended dinner early and drove her to the airport.

When Belle left, she was reluctant. “I really wanted to spend some time with you, but work just found me again.”

“Work comes first, and I’m fine now.”

“Really?” Belle studied her face carefully.

Eliza smiled brightly, “Of course. I’ve gotten rid of the jerk, healed my love–struck brain, and found a new job. Everything’s great!”

Her disguise was perfect.

Belle couldn’t tell anything was wrong, but a sense of unease lingered in her heart.

“No matter what, Calvin was your whole youth. It’s going to hurt so much, letting go of him.”

Just a little.

Just a tiny bit.

She almost broke down.

Thankfully, the airport announcement came in time to distract Belle.

“Go now, don’t miss your flight!”

In the end, Belle boarded the plane after Eliza urged her. During the flight, she looked back several times at Eliza.

Eliza stood still, smiling and waving at her.

She kept waving,

Until she couldn’t see her anymore. Then her hand fell heavily at her side.

After sending Belle off, Eliza took a car back to her place.

Just over a kilometer from home, there was an accident up ahead, causing a traffic jam.

Eliza decided to get out early; the distance wasn’t far, and she was prepared to walk the rest of the way.

She had been so busy job hunting lately that her body and mind were exhausted.

Walking alone in the cold wind, she felt numb and pitiful.

She had thought that once she left Calvin, everything would be better.

But now she realized she had underestimated the harshness of reality and overestimated Calvin’s character.

He truly left her no way out.

No wonder he so easily agreed to her resignation; it was because he had left a trap behind.

He had made it clear that without Everest, without him, she was nothing!

He was pushing her to return, to beg him, to grovel.

Calvin had once said, “Once you leave me, you’ll come back in less than three days.”

If she didn’t have a bit of pride, she would’ve already gone back to him.

But as she said, she would never look back.

Eliza adjusted her emotions and called Derek, wanting to arrange dinner for the next day.

Normally, he would answer her call immediately, but this time, he didn’t pick up.

It wasn’t too late, just past 7 PM.

And Derek wasn’t the type to sleep early.

His not answering meant only one thing–he was likely under Calvin’s pressure.

After all, Washington was small, and who would dare offend the financial tycoon, Calvin, because of her?

Eliza felt discouraged, but just then, she got a call from Josh.

She thought it was just a casual check–in, but when she answered, Josh got straight to the point. “I heard you’re job hunting?”

Eliza wasn’t surprised that Josh knew, since the capital world was small.

“Yeah.”

“Found anything suitable?”

Josh’s tone was genuinely concerned.

In the background, someone was calling him to drink, likely in the middle of a drinking session.

After replying briefly, Josh continued, “Why don’t you consider joining Unite to help me?”

Eliza had never considered Unite before.

Not because she looked down on them, but because Unite was a bank, and its operations were different from investment firms and capital companies.

She worried she wouldn’t be suitable.

But now, she was starting to waver.

After all, it felt like she had reached a dead end.

Josh didn’t rush for an answer, saying, “No need to decide right now. Just think it over and let me know. I’ve got a drinking session, so I’ll hang up now.”

“Alright.”
