Eliza smiled apologetically as she saw the police off, then turned to confront the cause of all her trouble, “What are you doing here?”

Her face was cold, her tone no different.

Calvin didn’t like seeing her like this. He irritably tugged at his shirt collar, the red marks on his neck clearly indicating an allergy.

It dawned on Eliza that Calvin had clearly been drinking.

Though they had known each other for seven years, Eliza had never seen Calvin drunk.

She didn’t know his tolerance was so poor that he would come to her place causing trouble!

The fire in Eliza’s chest burned as her face grew darker.

But Calvin still acted like it was business as usual, commanding her, “Do you have any allergy medicine at home?”

“No!”

Was she a pharmacy to him?

“Then pour me a glass of hot water,” Calvin pinched the bridge of his nose, clearly agitated.

“Mr. Young, you sure have forgotten a lot. You really think I’m just your Secretary Grant, to be at your beck and call?”

Calvin, irritated by her sharp tone, sternly reprimanded her, “How long are you going to keep this up?”

Eliza found herself in disbelief.

Things had already escalated to this point, and he still thought she was just throwing a tantrum?

Sorry, but she didn’t have time to indulge him!

“I’ve said everything I needed to, done everything I had to do. If Mr. Young still doesn’t get it, I’ll pay you a dollar later and you can go to the supermarket and find a rocking horse. Maybe it’ll help you understand better.”

Calvin’s face grew even darker, his eyes now pitch black, exuding a heavy sense of pressure as he coldly chuckled, “So you’ve latched onto Josh, and you’re not pretending anymore?”

He stepped closer, mocking her, his tone chilling, “Eliza, have you forgotten how you used to beg for my attention?”

See? To this day, he still treated her like a dog.

But why should she act like a dog when she could be human?

“You know that was in the past. Calvin, people change, haven’t you changed too?

Her voice suddenly softened, almost imperceptibly,

So faint that it felt like it wasn’t even there.

“So, you plan to use the same tactics of pleasing me to please Josh?” Calvin’s words were harsh, deliberately cruel.

But this time, Eliza didn’t feel hurt by his bitterness.

He had treated her like this before, after all.

She couldn’t be bothered to explain herself. She simply said, “Think what you want.”

It turned out that dealing with things like a scumbag, using a ruthless attitude–was both satisfying and efficient.

She didn’t even have to ask him to leave; Calvin left on his own.

He slammed the door behind him as he left.

Eliza wasn’t bothered by his visit, and went through the night as if nothing had happened.

The next morning, when she went out to throw out the trash, the cleaning lady in the stairwell was grumbling again.

“Who’s so uncouth? Throwing cigarette butts everywhere!”

After disposing of the trash, Eliza received a call from Sadie, sounding rushed and worried.

“Eliza, have you seen the news?”

“What news?”

Sadie paused for a moment. “You don’t know? You should check it out quickly.”

Eliza hung up and immediately received a group chat from Sadie.

Opening it, she almost choked in anger.

A Facebook user named “Clear” had spread rumors in a well–known financial group in Washington

The message claimed Eliza had attached herself to Josh, the newly appointed executive CEO of Unite, and had decisively resigned from Everest to join Unite.

The content was deeply suggestive, painting her as a woman who used her beauty to climb the corporate ladder.

The worst part was the insinuation that Eliza, after failing to force Calvin into marriage, had turned to Josh, using every means to climb to a higher position.

In short, everyone was looking down on her.

Sadie texted, “These people are too much. They’re twisting facts and spreading lies! I tried adding the person as a friend, but they refused. Otherwise, I would’ve scolded them until they were covered in dog blood!”

“Forget it, it’s not worth it.”

Eliza exited the messy group chat, feeling a sense of frustration.

Just last night, Calvin had mocked her, and now the scandal was spreading everywhere.

It was hard not to make the connection.

If Calvin really was behind this, then those years with him had been a complete waste of time!

Eliza had planned to ask Calvin about this, but before she could, Josh’s call came in.

“After I took over, I dealt with two shareholders who had corruption issues, so they’re holding a grudge and deliberately spreading these rumors

online.”

“I see.”

“I didn’t expect you to get dragged into this, and I’m really sorry about that.”

Eliza didn’t let it bother her, “It’s fine.”

After all, she had been slandered like this countless times over the years.

She had made enemies trying to secure projects for Everest.

Those who couldn’t get the better of her resorted to backhanded tactics.

People said she was a secretary by day and something else by night.

In short, there were all kinds of malicious and vicious rumors.

“You asked me to think it over yesterday. I’ve thought about it.”

Eliza gave him her answer directly, “I’m not considering Unite anymore.”

After another three days passed, Eliza didn’t receive any interview calls.

The resumes she had sent out sank without a trace, leaving her with no response.
