Calvin stared at her for a moment before speaking in a cold, deep voice, “Is it that you can’t buy it, or that you just don’t want to say? Eliza, using my connections and still treating me like this? Is this how you conduct yourself?”

Eliza had never realized how much Calvin liked to lecture people!

His tone was filled with a domineering air, the type that made him sound like a father figure.

She didn’t know how she ever tolerated it in the past!

But now, she couldn’t stand it anymore.

“How I conduct myself has nothing to do with you, President Young,” she replied, her voice as calm as ever.

Calvin’s emotions darkened, his eyes narrowing as he looked at her with barely contained anger. “You think it has nothing to do with me? Who gave you the audacity to speak to me like that?”

“Josh?” he asked, pushing further.

“Or Enzo?”

With each name he spoke, he pressed closer.

Along with his words, an oddly familiar scent of perfume filled the air.

It was the same perfume she’d once smelled on Medea.

She turned her face away, taking a few steps back to distance herself from the scent, until it was no longer noticeable.

Looking at him, her gaze was colder than ever, “In any case, it’s not from President Young.”

Calvin squinted his eyes, a mocking smile on his lips. “Why didn’t I ever see you so defiant before?”

Eliza’s voice remained flat, “It just means that President Young doesn’t know me well enough.”

Her tone was level, her expression calm, without a hint of emotion.

It had only been a short while since she left Everest, but she could now remain this calm.

The confrontation didn’t affect Eliza’s mood. Because…

Mr. West from Horizon Capital had arranged to meet her the next day to discuss her project!

As for whether Calvin managed to buy the cake Medea liked, Eliza had no iden.

The next day, the meeting with Mr. West went smoothly, but he did make a request.

He wanted Eliza to show him something concrete–at least a prototype–before deciding whether to invest, and how much to invest.

Eliza had full confidence in Enzo’s ability and was certain Mr. West would be impressed.

But the current challenge was whether the available funds could support Enzo in making the prototype.

Before she could even worry about the funds, Enzo called her, saying someone had come to the studio to look for her.

Eliza found it odd, as she couldn’t think of anyone who would come to the studio looking for her.

When she arrived in a hurry, she was surprised to find it was Camille.

“Surprised?” Camille greeted her with a warm hug.

Eliza nodded, “It’s quite a surprise. How did you find your way here?”

“I was on a business trip abroad last week, but I’ve been thinking about the project you mentioned. Since my return flight had a layover in Washington, I decided to stop by and check it out,” Camille explained.

After sitting down, Camille asked with genuine concern, “How’s it going? Still going smoothly?”

“Ms. Moore, being an entrepreneur, you know better than anyone–it’s never easy,” Eliza said with a self–deprecating laugh.

Camille comforted her, “Don’t get discouraged. Sometimes, if you stick with it, the rainbow will appear after the storm.”

Although these words only served as a consolation, Eliza still appreciated them.

At least she could feel Camille’s genuine concern.

“I’m here for another reason,” Camille said, taking out a check from her bag and placing it in front of Eliza.

.“I promised I’d invest in your project, and even though you didn’t reach out to me, I’m a person of my word. This is my investment in your project.”

The amount was not small, ten million.

Camille added, “I’m only investing. I won’t be involved in decision–making. If the project succeeds, I’ll take a proportional share of the profits. If it fails, I won’t put any pressure on you.”

It was the maximum level of control an investor could give, and it showed Camille’s sincerity.

“Ms. Moore, I really appreciate your trust. But I must remind you that this project is just beginning. Entering now means you need to be prepared to stick with us for the long haul,” Eliza said.

“I know,” Camille replied confidently. “Eliza, I believe in you. You’ll succeed.”

Camille’s investment was like a timely rain, resolving Eliza’s immediate financial concerns.

Now, she just needed to wait for Enzo to complete the initial prototype.

To ease Enzo’s workload, Eliza personally took charge of hiring for the studio,

She quickly realized how high the salaries for senior engineers were.

Every time she signed someone on, it felt like money was slipping through her fingers.

The funds Camille had invested were running out fast.

But Eliza didn’t tell Enzo, fearing it would affect him. She shouldered the burden on her own.

During this time, Thea often came to help out at the studio–bringing tea, making photocopies, running errands, and cleaning.

But Eliza didn’t want her to affect her studies, so she told her she was already hiring support staff and asked her not to come.

Thea didn’t believe her, since Eliza had always been doing these tasks herself. She was worried Eliza was overworking herself, so she came to help.

Finally, Eliza showed her the recruitment ad, and only then did Thea reluctantly believe her.

Eliza had planned to remove the ad after pretending to accommodate Thea, but to her surprise, people started applying.

“Eliza, I missed you so much!” Sadie appeared, giving Eliza a big hug, so enthusiastically that she almost couldn’t handle it.

“How did you get here?” Eliza asked, happy to see her old colleague.

“Guess,” Sadie winked at her.

“Came to see me?”

“Nope, try again.”

“You’re here for the job, aren’t you?” Eliza asked, frowning, guessing what was on her mind.

After all, the people coming here were either familiar faces or job applicants.
