Chapter 61
Eliza deliberately took Sadie around the studio to show her the current state of the company. She also hoped that Sadie would recognize the difficulties and back off. After all, the compensation she was offering wasn’t as good as what Everest could provide.
However, Sadie was determined to stay with Eliza, not caring about the pay. She even painted a rosy picture for herself, “Eliza, I know your capabilities. You’re an absolute gem, a future powerhouse! I need to hug your thigh now so I can be ahead of the line later!”
Eliza couldn’t help but laugh at her enthusiasm. “Alright then, come in on Monday.”
Before Monday even came, good news arrived from Enzo’s side. He and his team had finished the first prototype!
Eliza, who had been anxious for a while, finally relaxed.
“Good work, everyone.”
She glanced at the time–it was already past 9 PM, and it was the weekend. Despite the late hour, everyone was still working hard in the studio. Eliza, feeling guilty for them, left the house to buy some snacks and food to treat Enzo and the team.
. Not many cake shops were still open at this hour. But Eliza, having worked in this field for a while, knew exactly where to go.
In fact, she had accumulated these experiences during her time at Everest, after running errands for cakes all around Washington.
So, when she found an open bakery and was about to place her order, she ran into a familiar face.
Brace.
He was Calvin’s driver.
Brace looked surprised when he saw her. “Secretary Grant, it’s been a long time.”
“Brace, I’ve already resigned,” Eliza smiled, reminding him.
He looked a bit embarrassed. “I’m still used to calling you that, can’t help it.”
Eliza didn’t take offense, but she was curious why Brace was out here at this time.
“Brace, aren’t you supposed to be controlling your sugar intake? It’s late to be buying cakes, you should watch your health,” she reminded him.
Brace quickly explained, “It’s not for me, it’s for President Young’s orders.”
Eliza frowned. Calvin didn’t like sweets, so the cake… most likely it was for Medea.
“By the way, Miss Grant, do you have any reliable cake shop recommendations? I’ve been running around all of Washington, trying to find a cake that suits President Young’s taste, but I haven’t been able to.”
Brace was at his wit’s end. He remembered how Eliza had always handled this back in the day, so he turned to her for help. After all, she knew Calvin’s preferences best.
Eliza was a bit surprised. Was Calvin really going to this extent for Modea?
He had involved an old driver in this mission!
Medea was his first love, but this was still too much!
She could sense the lack of sincerity in this effort!

Chapter 61
“I’ll write it down for you,” Eliza sighed and took out the recipe she had used for the cakes.
Although she hadn’t baked in a while, the recipe and measurements were etched into her memory, and she wrote it down easily and fluidly.
“Take this recipe to this Bakery and have the baker there prepare it for you.”
Brace was grateful. “Miss Grant, you’ve really saved me.”
“It’s nothing, don’t mention it.”
After helping Brace with his problem, Eliza went back to her business.
When she came out with the treats, she saw Brace still waiting by the door.
When he saw her, he walked over and spoke, “Miss Grant, it’s getting late. Let me drive you home.”
“No need, I’ll take a taxi,” she replied.
But Brace was insistent. “It’s inconvenient with all these things. Plus, it’s windy outside. Waiting for a taxi will make you cold, and you might catch a cold. Let me drive you.”
Eliza couldn’t refuse his kind offer and got into the car.
The car’s heating was on, and the warmth helped drive away some of the cold.
A familiar woodsy male scent, mixed with the warmth, enveloped her.
Eliza furrowed her brow. Why did it smell like Calvin?
Then she realized that she was in his car–of course, it would smell like him.
She almost started overthinking.
Thankfully, she didn’t smell anything else, like women’s perfume.
Brace asked where Eliza was headed, and she gave him an address.
“Still working hard like before, Miss Grant,” Brace commented.
“Maybe I was born to be a workhorse,” Eliza replied, half–joking.
The journey wasn’t far, and after a few brief exchanges, they arrived.
Brace got out and helped her retrieve the cakes from the trunk.
As Eliza reached to take the peace charm hanging from the rearview mirror, memories rushed back.
It was the charm she had gotten from a temple after climbing ninety–nine steps, praying for Calvin’s safety.
When she gave it to him, he mocked her, calling it superstition, and claimed he didn’t believe in such things.
At the time, Eliza didn’t believe either.
But when Calvin had a car accident, she was terrified when she arrived at the scene. Although he only had minor injuries, the car was almost totaled.
During that period, Eliza took care of him, constantly fearing for his safety, even dreaming that something worse had happened to him.
Even though she knew there were no gods or spirits, she went to the temple to pray for his safety, because now, there was someone she cared about.

Now, however, she was taking the charm back.
If true feelings couldn’t bring true feelings, it was time to move on.
Eliza had always believed in Enzo’s ability, and the results proved she was right.
Even the initial lightweight prototype had a great user experience.
