Chapter 67

Mr. West and Medea finished talking, and then he asked Eliza about the purpose of her visit.

Eliza finally had a chance to speak and wasted no time in trying to seize the opportunity.

When she found out that Eliza was also after the database, Mr. West frowned. “This is a bit awkward. I’ve already agreed to Manager Wynn.”

Eliza felt a rush of anxiety. “Mr. West, we really need Horizon’s support right now. You saw how much potential our product has, and now it’s done, we just need this final step. I hope you can help us out.”

She proactively poured him a glass of wine, trying her best to convince him.

Unfortunately, someone else had to ruin the moment.

Medea, half–jokingly, said, “I’ve heard Eliza can really drink. I see it’s true–half a bottle of white wine, and you’re still fine. Do you have a secret to

share?”

Before Eliza could respond, Calvin spoke up first, his tone gentle, “Why bother learning how to drink? It won’t be necessary.”

Medea smiled sweetly, though her voice had a playful tone, “You’re not with me all the time, though. Sometimes I have to handle things on my own. It’s better to be prepared, don’t you think?”

“Besides, you don’t drink much, so it would help if I could learn to share the burden,” she added, her tone dripping with sweetness.

It was truly tender and thoughtful.

No wonder Calvin couldn’t resist.

If Eliza were a man, she would probably struggle too.

But Eliza wasn’t distracted by their display of affection. She kept focusing on convincing Mr. West.

After all, she wasn’t Medea.

She had no backing, no connections, and no one to rely on.

Everything had to be earned through hard work.

Mr. West was clearly wavering, but since he had already promised Medea, he couldn’t back out now. Moreover, Horizon and Everest were strategic partners, so some resources had to be allocated.

With regret, he looked at Eliza and prepared to reject her.

When Eliza saw his expression, she felt a sinking feeling in her heart.

Was this going to be a failure?

Before Mr. West could speak, Calvin suddenly asked, “I heard Unite has invested in your project?”

The question came out of nowhere, and Eliza almost didn’t react in time.

But when Mr. West heard the name Unite, his expression froze for a moment.

Calvin snorted lightly, “So, you’ve really climbed up the ladder to Josh, I underestimated you.”

Medea also sneered, looking at Eliza with clear disdain, as if she had used unscrupulous means to secure Unite’s investment.

Eliza suppressed her anger and didn’t react.

After all, now wasn’t the time.

She had learned to manage her emotions; that was one of the most important survival skills in the workplace.

So, she restrained herself, preparing to persuade Mr. West again.

But unexpectedly, Mr. West suddenly changed his stance, “Actually, there’s another way. I can allocate some resources from Manager Wynn’s side to

you.”

Medea ‘s face changed, clearly displeased with Mr. West’s sudden shift.

Mr. West quickly reassured her, “But Manager Wynn, don’t worry, Horizon’s database is comprehensive. Even if I allocate some resources to Eliza, it won’t affect your project at all.”

Medea seemed to be about to say something, but Calvin spoke up first, agreeing to the proposal, “Let’s do it. We have the best algorithm engineers here. These issues won’t be a problem for them. It’ll actually prove their strength!”

Hearing him, Medea relaxed. “Mr. West, I have no objections.”

“Then it’s settled!” Mr. West, feeling pleased, took the initiative to propose a toast to everyone.

Eliza felt a mix of happiness and concern.

She was glad she hadn’t come here for nothing, but she was also worried that the resources Mr. West allocated wouldn’t be enough to support their

model.

After the meal, Eliza walked out of the restaurant and immediately called Enzo to update him on the situation in the Northern City.

Enzo had been waiting for her call and picked up almost immediately.

Before Eliza could speak, Enzo reassured her, “If we can cooperate, that’s great. If not, I’ll think of another way. Don’t stress too much.”

Then, he sounded a little guilty, “I shouldn’t have let you go alone. Should I come over now? I’ll check for a flight…”

Eliza quickly interrupted him, “Don’t come, I’ve already sorted it out.”

“Sorted out?” Enzo was surprised,

He could tell that Eliza’s tone didn’t carry much joy.

Eliza explained the situation to him.

“It’s no problem! I’ll make sure these resources are used to their fullest potential!” Enzo assured her.

Hearing this, Eliza felt a little more at ease. It wasn’t all in vain.

“When are you coming back?”

Enzo cared more about her than the work.

“I had a bit of wine during the meal, so it’s not the right time to head back. I’ll probably leave tomorrow.”

“Again with the drinking?” Enzo frowned.

“It was for work, no way around it.”

“How’s your stomach? Are you feeling okay?”

“I’m fine, I prepared beforehand, and didn’t drink much.”

Enzo was still concerned, “Did you book a hotel? Don’t skimp. Get a good one with good service, and make sure they give you some hangover soup.”

Eliza cut him off, “Don’t worry, I’m not drunk. I’m staying at a friend’s place tonight.”

Enzo gave her a few more reminders.

As she was about to hang up, she heard Medea ‘s voice behind her.

It seemed like she was intentionally lowering her voice, almost as if she didn’t want to disturb her.
