Eliza had a great time tonight.
She hadn’t drunk much, just enough to feel a pleasant buzz, and her mood was lifted.
It was the most relaxed she’d been in the past three months.
However, that good mood was immediately shattered when she saw Calvin.
Time does indeed heal everything, and change is inevitable. If this had been before, she would have been ecstatic to see Calvin coming to find her. But now, all she felt was disgust.
Before she could speak, Calvin was the first to question her, “Why didn’t you pick up my calls?”
Eliza slowly searched her bag for the keys, casually responding. “I didn’t see them.”
“You think I’d believe that?”
His gaze was dark, like a brewing storm waiting to break.
Eliza couldn’t care less whether he believed it or not. Giving him an answer was already showing him courtesy.
“Believe it or not, it’s up to you,” Eliza replied indifferently, finally finding the keys. She looked at him, standing in front of her door, and said, “Mr. Young, please move. You’re blocking my door.”
Calvin stepped aside, and Eliza swiftly opened the door.
Before he could follow her in, she quickly slammed the door shut.
Calvin, expecting her to relent, was caught off guard when she didn’t hesitate and forcefully shut the door, pinning his hand.
The pain made Calvin grunt, but he didn’t let go. Instead, he pressed against the door frame, determined to prevent her from closing the door.
“What are you doing, Calvin?” Eliza snapped, her voice rising with anger, “I thought we had made things clear between us. No matter what you think about our past relationship, it’s over. From now on, you go your way, I go mine. We should avoid each other. There’s no need to keep crossing paths. It’s done!”
“Please, stop disturbing my life. Got it?”
Her words were sharp, like arrows aimed directly at him.
For a moment, Calvin was stunned, and the usual calmness in his eyes faltered. He rarely let emotions show, but this time, the shock lingered for a few
seconds.
His brows furrowed, and the air seemed to thicken, becoming hard to breathe. His hand trembled slightly from the pain, but he didn’t move.
Eliza had said all she needed to. She didn’t want to drag this out any longer.
Without looking back, she closed the door on him.
For the first time, she was decisive.
She felt as though she truly didn’t care anymore.
Even when she saw his hand injured, she didn’t feel the urge to soften her heart.

Chapter 69
Half an hour later, Brace received Calvin’s call.
Standing in the cold night wind, Calvin held his injured hand, smoking a cigarette with the other. The gray smoke swirled upwards, obscuring half of his face.
Brace quickly jogged over. “Mr. Young, it’s cold outside. Get in the car.”
Calvin finished his cigarette, stamping it out in a trash can already filled with cigarette butts. Brace could tell he’d been standing there for a while.
Once in the car, Brace asked, “Back to the hotel?”
“To the hospital.”
Brace assumed he was going to visit Grayson, so he was about to navigate to the hospital where Grayson was staying.
But Calvin told him to go to another hospital.
Brace realized, “Mr. Young, you’re injured? How bad is it?”
“It’s nothing serious,” Calvin’s voice was low, his words blunt.
Brace carefully glanced at Calvin in the rearview mirror, noticing the pale look on his face. It was obvious that the injury was serious.
At the hospital, Brace finally saw the extent of Calvin’s hand injury. It was severe, with large bruises and swelling from the back of his hand to his palm. It clearly looked like it had been caught in a door.
The doctor’s expression turned serious when he saw the injury. “If it had been a bit more forceful, this could have resulted in a fracture.”
Brace broke out in a cold sweat.
After Calvin finished with the treatment, he asked Brace to take him to another hospital.
Brace assumed Grayson hadn’t rested yet, so he was getting ready to check in on him.
But Calvin instead went to another place.
Grayson was lying in his bed, flipping through the latest financial magazine with Calvin on the cover. It was a photo shoot that had been done months ago when Eliza was still at Everest.
Grayson casually tossed the magazine aside when Calvin entered, seemingly unimpressed by the cover.
Calvin picked up the magazine and glanced at it. “It turned out pretty well.”
Grayson smirked. “All show, no substance.”
Calvin was used to this kind of remark. He lightly mocked back, “Isn’t that what you always say?”

Nancy entered, hearing their exchange. She immediately cut in, “Alright, both of you stop.”
She noticed Calvin’s bandaged hand and immediately exclaimed, “Ah, Calvin, what happened to your hand? Is it serious?”
Calvin shrugged, speaking indifferently, “I just slipped, nothing serious.”
Brace couldn’t help but take another look at Calvin.
He quickly averted his gaze after receiving a warning look from Calvin.
“It’s strange, how did you hurt yourself?” Nancy asked, still unsure.

Calvin insisted it was a slip, and she had no choice but to believe him.
Calvin asked about Grayson’s condition, and Nancy said he hadn’t had much of an appetite and hadn’t eaten much that afternoon, which was hindering his recovery.
Calvin frowned. “If the food you’re making doesn’t suit him, then no one can make food that he’ll like.”
