The unfavorable test results left Eliza in a heavy mood.
Considering that this expert was someone Calvin had helped arrange, Eliza made a small request before leaving.
“Please don’t reveal my test results to anyone.”
Dr. Shaw adjusted his glasses and assured her, “Protecting patient privacy is a fundamental duty of a doctor. I have professional ethics; you can rest assured.”
“Thank you.”
With a heavy heart, Eliza left the hospital.
The weather seemed to match her mood, gray and dull, mirroring her current feelings.
Calvin still hadn’t shown up.
She couldn’t even describe what she was feeling.
The truth was, whether he came or not, it wouldn’t make any difference to her emotions.
She had long been numb.
It was just that, since he couldn’t follow through, it was better not to make any promises.
As soon as the New Year’s holiday ended, Eliza threw herself back into her busy work.
She arrived early at the office and immediately had Sadie make her a cup of strong black coffee to wake her up.
Sadie complied, but when the drink was brought to her, it wasn’t black coffee but a warm cup of red date and motherwort tea.
Eliza frowned as she looked at it.
Sadie said, “You can’t drink cold coffee during your period. This red date tea will help you feel better.”
“How do you know I’m on my period?” Eliza asked, puzzled.
Sadie replied, “I can tell. Every time you’re on your period, your face gets pale, and you instinctively press your lower abdomen.”
“Not bad, you’ve become more observant and thoughtful.” Eliza praised her.
Sadie had been mentored by Eliza, and though the girl was great, she used to be very careless.
Eliza used to correct her on this problem when they were at Everest.
It seemed the effort was paying off now.
Sadie, feeling proud from the compliment, puffed out her chest. “Of course! Who do you think raised me?”
She then reminded Eliza, “Hurry up and drink it! I have a whole big pot. Let me know when you’re done, and I’ll pour you more!”
Eliza, speechless, smiled faintly.

Chapter 99
In the afternoon, Eliza had to personally conduct interviews for the candidates she had pre–screened.
Just before entering the interview room, Sadie stopped her and mentioned something.
“Amanda is here.”
Eliza frowned. “Didn’t I reject her resume? Who notified her?”
Sadie shook her head. “I don’t know. I saw her when I went to the front desk to pick up a package. She’s quite clever; she even bought coffee for the front desk.”
Eliza knew Amanda’s personality well and flipped through the resumes she had on hand.
Sure enough, Amanda’s resume was there.
“I’ll go throw it away,” Sadie offered.
Eliza stopped her hand. “It’s fine. Let her come in.”
With that, Eliza walked into the interview room.
Soon, the interview began.
Because she had pre–screened the candidates, all the second–round interviewees were quite capable.
Eliza went through another round of selection, keeping the most suitable ones and politely rejecting those less qualified.
Amanda was the ninth to enter.
Before entering, she was full of confidence.
After all, she had the most impressive resume among all the candidates!
Just the fact that she had worked as an investment manager at Everest gave her enough confidence!
As for her resume being rejected online, she had always thought it was just an error.
That’s why she was so confident in coming to Apex in person.
Eliza guessed that Amanda probably didn’t know she was the owner of Apex.
If she had known, she definitely wouldn’t have come.
When Amanda entered, she was about to confidently introduce herself, but upon seeing Eliza sitting at the center of the table, her words caught in her throat.
At that moment, Amanda’s expression was priceless.
Eliza spoke in a businesslike tone, gesturing for her to sit down.
She asked the usual questions, not treating her any differently just because she was Amanda.
But Amanda, nervous, kept making mistakes.
“Thank you very much for attending today’s interview. We will announce the results within a week, so please keep an eye on your email and phone messages. Thank you, and please call in the next candidate.”
Amanda stiffly left the interview room.

Chapter 99
As for the result, she already had a good idea.
As she walked past the front desk, the receptionist stopped her and asked, “Ms. Amanda, is your interview finished? Was it a success?”
Amanda had no idea how to respond.
The receptionist, however, smiled and said, “With your impressive resume, you must have passed! We’ll be colleagues from now on. Please take care of me!”
Amanda thought for a moment and asked, “Is Eliza your boss?”
“Yes! You didn’t realize? She’s so young but already the boss! Not only is she capable, but she’s also beautiful! She’s the ultimate winner in life!”
Each word the receptionist said made Amanda’s face darker.
“But don’t worry, our boss is really nice. She treats the employees very well and doesn’t act like a boss at all. You might think our company is small, but with our boss’s ability, it will definitely grow stronger in the future.”
Amanda left Apex, feeling like a walking corpse.
She stood at the building’s entrance, feeling lost.
Ever since she was fired from Everest, she had been busy looking for a job.
At first, she applied to large companies, thinking her experience at Everest would open doors.
But strangely, all the big companies rejected her resume.
Amanda eventually learned, through some probing, that Calvin had blacklisted her!
She couldn’t understand why. She had only made a few sarcastic remarks about Eliza. Did Calvin really have to go so far to blacklist her?
For the sake of survival, Amanda had no choice but to lower her standards and apply to smaller companies.
But it seemed that even the smaller companies wouldn’t take her, probably because they had heard rumors.
In the end, she had no choice but to apply to a newly established company, thinking that Calvin’s influence couldn’t reach there, so she submitted her resume to Apex.
But she never imagined that Apex was Eliza’s company!
Amanda’s heart was heavy.
