"We're home." Max announced hours after they arrived at their destination as he pulled up in front of a mansion that was located at the outskirts of town.
Christina opened her eyes to peek through the gates that housed the most breathtaking place that she had ever seen. Her eyes couldn't believe any of this. She has always known that Max was doing well for himself but she didn't know that it was this good.
Well, why would she even think otherwise anyway when his best friend is also wealthy too. She was a fool for thinking anything less cause this place doesn't even look like a family house. It could be a resort and she wouldn't even be surprised.
"It's good to see you again, Mr Maxwell." The security greeted and Max smiled at him.
"Likewise, John." He answered and drove in when the gates were pulled open.
After making a round turn at the fountain, he parked his car at an empty space and turned off the engines.
"Well, welcome to the place where I was born and raised." He said casually like he didn't just bring her to another side of the world that resembled a place for royalty.
"What do you think?"
"It's beautiful." Christina whispered, eyes still roaming around, trying to take in everything at once and imprint it in her memory so that she never forgets the beauty of this place.
"What about you?" She turned to ask him without a second to lose. "Are you feeling okay now?"
"What makes you think that I wasn't?"
Christina narrowed her eyes at him. Was he being serious right now? "You barely spoke a word to me throughout the trip. You're usually chatty but your words were short and abrupt like you were holding back so I chalked it up to you being upset."
"I'm not upset."
She arched a brow at him, every bone inside her didn't believe his words at all. "Really? Cause it didn't give off that vibe at all. If anything, I'm pretty sure that you were upset. Did I say something?"
"Christina I—"
"Max!" Someone squealed in a high pitch voice from outside the car, disrupting their conversation. Christina almost jumped out of her seat in fright. She darted her eyes towards Max's window to see a girl standing outside and waving her hands at him.
She shut her eyes briefly to calm her already raging heart that was beating like she had just ran a marathon. She definitely wasn't expecting such a warm welcome like this at all.
Max pinched the bridge of his nose in exhaustion when the girl in question knocked on his window repeatedly, urging him to come outside.
He did and immediately rounded the car to open the door for Christina, beating her to it.
The girl in question, pounced on him, giving him a hug and he hugged her back before she pulled away. "You finally came to visit. I thought that I'd have to die or something before you come back home."
"Really funny, Patty."
"I'm being serious." She shot back, her tone changing in seconds. "You are such a bad parent. How is it that you left me alone to raise a child that both said we'd raise together? What happened to being responsible parents?"
