Broderick chased after Stella, looking like he’d just lost his last hope. He called out, “Hey, Stella. Come on.”

“Call me that one more time and I’ll twist your head off!” Stella shot back, her face blank but her eyes cold and fierce.

Broderick could only stare, lost for words.

Stella didn’t even spare him a glance. Her hand was about to touch the Pagani Zonda’s door when a voice drifted over from behind, soft and haunting.

Broderick said, “3 million.”

Sebastian saw Stella’s hand hesitate for a moment.

With her back to Broderick, Stella let out a cold chuckle and pulled the car door open.

Broderick said, “6 million.”

His eyes were brimming with tears.

Sebastian could clearly see Stella’s eyes light up.

Just as Stella was about to get in, Broderick gritted his teeth and blurted out, “10 million! Take it or leave it!”

With a loud bang, the door she’d just opened slammed shut. Stella turned around, her smile as warm as spring, her long lashes casting a soft shadow on her face. She said, “Deal!”

Sebastian, who’d watched the whole thing go down, could only stare in silence.

Stella looked at Broderick, her gorgeous face glowing with kindness in the night. She gave him a friendly reminder, “Dorestan Bank, transfer it now!”

Five minutes later, Stella’s phone chimed.

After confirming the money was in, Stella could barely be bothered to be patient with Broderick. She said casually, “Alright, what’s your deal?”

Broderick was still mourning the loss of his precious savings as he muttered, “Need you to help me in a

brawl.”

His voice was dead inside.

After a couple of seconds of silence, Stella asked, “That’s it?” Then, just so he wouldn’t forget, she gave a friendly reminder, “No matter how big or small the job, no refunds.”

Broderick thought, ‘Yeah, thanks, but you really didn’t have to rub it in!

‘It really hurts to pay that much.’

“Ivan,” Sebastian called out, glancing into the darkness.

Broderick turned, locked eyes with the snake, and blinked. Then, he went down like a log, flat on his back.

His feet kept twitching every so often.

Both Ivan and Blackie instinctively glanced at Stella, faces full of innocent confusion.

Stella let out a sigh, thinking, ‘Man, this batch of teammates is a nightmare to deal with.’ She walked over to Broderick.

Broderick’s eyeballs were rolling around under his eyelids; he was obviously playing possum.

Stella gave him a little kick and said, “Get up.”

Broderick kept his eyes shut, speaking in a barely audible voice, “There’s a snake.”

Stella asked, “So what?” She clenched her jaw, barely holding back her annoyance.

Broderick said, “That snake eats people!!!” He crossed his arms over his chest, acting like a peaceful corpse.

Blackie, flicking its tongue, just stared at him in silence.

Ivan spoke in a creepy tone, “Blackie doesn’t eat people.” Then, maybe realizing he sounded way too weird, he tacked on a cackling laugh.

The next second, Blackie whipped its tail right across Ivan’s mouth.

It thought, ‘Can’t you just shut up?’

Stella gave Sebastian a complicated look, like she wanted to say something but stopped herself.

After a couple of seconds, Sebastian sighed and said, “I’ll make sure they get some mental health lessons once we’re back.”

Broderick slit one eye open, sneaking a peek at Blackie.

Stella’s voice was icy as she said, “No refunds.”

Broderick shot up from the ground so fast he left a blur behind.

He flashed an elegant smile.

Sebastian stayed quiet, then handed the car keys to Ivan. He said, “Drive it back to the island.”

Ivan didn’t take the keys, looking sheepish.

His face twisted with mixed emotions, and he fell silent.

Ivan said, “I don’t actually have a driver’s license.”

Blackie, still draped over Ivan’s shoulders, started bowing to Sebastian again and again, as if apologizing for its human.

Sebastian asked, “You seriously don’t have a license?”

Even Stella was taken aback. She’d never heard Sebastian sound so emotional before.

Ivan snuck a glance up, then sheepishly held out four fingers. He said, “Failed the driver’s test four times.”

Blackie was bowing like crazy, apologizing for his human!

Stella arched an eyebrow, her tone dripping with disbelief as she said, “How did you manage to fail the driving test four times?”

Guilty, Ivan stared up at the sky, wishing he could disappear.

He said, “First time, crashed into a tree. Second, took out a security pole. Third, rammed the break room. Fourth, broke my instructor’s leg.”

Blackie kept bowing.

Sebastian just stood there, silent for a good five seconds, then pocketed the keys. He said, “Just stay here and wait for us to get back.”

Ivan’s eyes brightened up, and he turned to sneak off into the shadows.

He’d barely gotten several feet before realizing Blackie hadn’t budged from its spot.

Realizing Blackie was missing, Ivan turned around, only to see Stella holding the snake, dangling it like a limp rubber squid noodle.

Stella held Blackie up, flashing Ivan a friendly smile. She asked, “Mind if I borrow him for a bit?”

Ivan said nothing.

He thought, ‘Damn, that smile is blinding!

With a whoosh, Ivan slipped into the shadows, melting right in.

Stella thought, ‘Guess I’ll take that as a yes!

Half an hour later, the bar district was packed and lively.
