Chantel called out, “Declan,” but as she stood up and reached out to take it, her smile instantly froze on her face.
The whole class went quiet.
Even Jude’s eyes widened.
Stella glanced up with a lazy look, just shot Declan a look, and didn’t say a word.
Declan didn’t bother to explain. After dropping it off, he went back to his seat, stuffed his backpack under the desk, and slumped over to sleep.
Chadwick, meanwhile, gave Stella a respectful bow, stammering, “Stella.”
Then he went back to his seat next to Declan.
Everyone stood there, dumbstruck.
Everyone was stunned that Chadwick called Stella.
Jude said, “Alright, everyone, settle down for class.” One of these three had an influential relative outside school, another had deep ties in Jaffina, and the third was untouchable with board-member backing. Jude chose to look the other way.
Let them handle their own mess.
‘Better get out of here while I can,’ Jude thought.
During class, Chantel looked absolutely livid as she glared at Stella’s profile. There was no way she could let this go.
Suddenly, as if picking up on all that bad energy, Blackie nestled in Stella’s hair, opened its eyes, and let out a hiss. It flashed its tiny, razor-sharp fangs right at Chantel. Surprise!
Chantel’s scream shattered the silence of the classroom.
She toppled over with her chair, her usual queen bee vibe nowhere to be seen. She shouted, “Snake. There’s a snake. It’s alive.”
Stella fell silent.
Everyone’s eyes landed on her again.
Stella lazily reached up and took Blackie out of her hair. Blackie just stayed perfectly still, letting her squeeze, pulì, stretch it straight, then roll it back up in front of everyone.

Blackie was speechless.

‘Man, I’m just a baby snake, but I’m already dealing with way too much for my age, thought Blackie.
Stella didn’t even blink. She just looked at Chantel, deadpan. She said, “It’s not real.”
As she spoke, she coiled the little black snake back into her hair.
Stella chuckled lazily and said, “You’re seeing things.”
Chantel was stunned.
She definitely saw it move.
She saw it blink.
And it even flashed its fangs at her.
Chantel’s face turned a mix of red and black, and she added another grudge to her list against Stella.
“Declan, that snake’s really real,” Chadwick whispered. They’d all seen it with their own eyes that night.
Declan just lay there with his head on his arm, eyes shut, saying nothing.
He turned his face toward the window, a sly smile playing at his lips, his amusement hidden in the morning sunlight.
The bell rang, signaling the end of class.
Once Jude left, Class 3, which was usually rowdy as hell, was so quiet. Everyone’s attention zeroed in on Stella.
But Stella herself was totally unfazed. She calmly finished up the last part of Emily’s paper, fixed it up, and sent it over.
Once she was done, Stella looked up.
Stella was confused.
‘Why is everyone staring at me?’ Stella wondered.
Just then, her phone rang. With everyone watching in dead silence, Stella answered her phone.
Everyone was stunned.
The moment she pulled out her phone, the whole class stared in disbelief. They thought, ‘Were our eyes playing tricks on us?
‘Was that the Nova logo?

‘Wasn’t that the phone Nova Group made for their anniversary? The one that’s a global limited edition and never sold to anyone outside?
‘Everyone at Edenbury Academy was either filthy rich or had major clout, but even for us, getting one was totally out of the question.
‘We couldn’t buy it, no matter how much money we had.
Everyone was dying of envy.
“Ms. Carter, this is Caleb,” Caleb said. Stella just gave a noncommittal hum, but the way everyone’s eyes burned with curiosity and envy when she pulled out her phone made her frown.
‘Annoying,’ Stella thought.
“There’s a car waiting for you at the back gate. The license plate ends with 001. Could you ask for leave and step out for a moment?” Caleb said, then added in a lower voice, “Everyone’s already here.”
He dropped his voice on that last part, clearly hinting at something.
Stella replied, “Got it.”
She stood up with a lazy air, grabbed her shoulder bag, and pulled out a black baseball cap, putting it on. Instantly, her aura sharpened, every edge of her personality on full display.
“Stella, we still have class. Where are you going?” Chadwick stammered, his cheeks burning red.
Stella shot him a look and replied, “Got business to handle.”
Not bothering to say more, she strode right out of the classroom.
Everyone was left speechless.
‘She just gave the shortest excuse for skipping class ever. Honestly, that’s so blunt it’s actually kind of cool, everyone couldn’t help but think.
The can of Coke sat all by itself on the desk.
Chantel said, “Well, well, Declan, looks like even you get the cold shoulder sometimes.”
Her voice dripped with sarcasm.
Chadwick shot a worried glance at Declan, but Declan was sleeping like a log, completely clueless about everything going on.
Chadwick was speechless.
Honestly, this was just too wild to even comment on.
Just as Chantel was about to toss out another sarcastic jab, the door slammed open. Stella strode in, stone- faced, snatched up the can of Coke from the desk, and walked right back out without a word.

‘That’s a 10-million tribute. No way I’m leaving it behind, Stella thought.
Chantel was speechless.
Her face kept changing colors like a neon rainbow light show.
She was so mad that she could just drop dead.
Downstairs on the sports field, Blackie zipped out of Stella’s hair and wrapped itself snugly around her wrist, its tail tip wiggling with delight.
Stella pulled her black baseball cap down low, her face cold as she took off her school jacket and shoved it into her bag.
Someone called out, “Watch out.”
Suddenly, a basketball came hurtling toward her head. The sports guys training nearby yelled out, all of them staring in shock, sure that something bad was about to happen.
But in the very next second, Stella spun around as if she had a sixth sense, like she just knew it was coming.
Right before the ball could slam into her face, she snatched it out of the air like it was nothing.
All the sports guys were left speechless, jaws practically on the floor.
‘Did she seriously just do that?’ they thought. Every single one of them was freaking out inside.
“Sorry, could you toss the ball back?” someone called out. Stella’s face was hidden by the shadow of her black baseball cap so others couldn’t recognize her.
