Chapter 228

He locked eyes with a face he knew all too well.

Garrett froze in shock.

John felt silent.

:

‘Wait, when did Ms. Carter start following us?’ he wondered.

Stella, holding her motorcycle helmet in one hand and Garrett’s phone in the other, hung up the call with a blank face. “Trust me, you really don’t want to do this.”

With that, she tossed the phone back to Garrett.

Garrett was stunned for a moment.

He caught it with a numb expression.

Stella said, “Anyone who comes is just asking to get killed.”

She gave a light chuckle.

Chloe exclaimed, “You?”

She immediately recognized Stella as the one who had humiliated her earlier today, and she couldn’t believe she’d run into her again tonight, of all places.

Stella didn’t even spare Chloe a glance. Her eyes were locked on Garrett.

“Don’t disturb them,” she ordered.

She pointed at the VIP lounge, smiling slightly, “Got it?”

Garrett was stunned for a moment.

He knew firsthand how dangerous she was, so he didn’t doubt for a second that her threat was real.

Her smile dropped instantly. “Do you understand?”

Garrett stammered, “Y-Yes. I understand.”

Finally, Stella looked pleased and turned her attention to John.

John felt silent.

He instinctively straightened up.

Stella said, “Don’t tell Sebastian I was here.”

Leaving it at that, she just went and sat herself down in a corner, cool as ever, propped one leg over the other, and casually chucked her helmet to the side.

Inside, the place looked totally trashed. Stuff was strewn all over the floor.

Bastienne smirked, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Does saying any of this even matter now?” She settled back onto the couch, hands trembling as she took out her compact and touched up her flawlessly maintained face.

Sebastian regarded her with cold indifference.

With a click, Bastienne snapped her compact shut.

Without even sparing Sebastian a glance, Bastienne snatched up her purse and stood to leave.

Sebastian said, “You’re not getting out of Haliville unless I say so.”

His voice was icy, completely devoid of warmth.

Bastienne, who was almost at the door, snapped back. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Sebastian said, “Sea, land, air, be my guest, try them all.” He rolled the black prayer beads between his fingers, and when he looked up, his eyes were sharp and lethal.

Bastienne demanded, “What exactly are you trying to pull?”

Sebastian said, “Two days from now, on the fifth death anniversary, I want you to show up.”

Bastienne let out a cold laugh. “And in what capacity?”

Sebastian said, “Whatever you want.”

His voice was flat, completely devoid of emotion. “Or you can just not show up. If you don’t, I’ll get rid of everything Dad left for you.”

“What did you just say?” Bastienne was stunned, not expecting that man to have left her anything.

They’d already split up over the divorce before things went south.

She never believed that cold, hard man ever truly loved her. Even when he paid for her schooling, Bastienne figured he was just acting on a whim because he liked her looks.

But Sebastian ignored her completely and started wheeling himself toward the door.

“Sebastian,” Bastienne called out his name, just as his hand touched the doorknob. She didn’t even know what

made her call out to him.

Sebastian paused, but didn’t turn around.

Sebastian said, “Whatever bond we had as mother and son. It’s been dead for a long time.”

“Mr. Gray,” John called out. As soon as Sebastian stepped out, John couldn’t help but look over to where Stella had just been sitting.

She was gone.

“Back to the island,” Sebastian ordered.

“Yes,” John answered crisply.

‘Wait, where did Ms. Carter go?’ he thought.

On the way back, a low-key, luxury black Maybach cruised down the road, with a Lightning LS-218 following close behind.

Stella was astride her Lightning LS-218, her eyes locked on the Maybach ahead, hidden behind her helmet.

She escorted them all the way.

Inside the car, Sebastian frowned and suddenly said, “Stop the car.”

John was confused.

His response was to roll down the window himself.

John quickly pulled over to the side of the road.

Sebastian demanded, “Who said you could follow?”

The Lightning LS-218 thundered to a stop right next to the window Sebastian had just rolled down, and Stella pulled off her helmet.

She swung off the bike.

Sebastian said, “Do you have any idea how risky it is to ride a bike on the airport road?”

He didn’t even get to finish before a red rose, fresh from the airport flower shop, tied with a green ribbon, was suddenly held up to his lips.

The rose was still tightly closed, not yet in full bloom.

Its subtle scent drifted through the air.

Stella gave a playful chuckle.

Sebastian was speechless.

John, sneaking glances in the rearview mirror, was left gaping.
