Stella sighed helplessly.

The elevator doors slid open, and a solemn hush filled the air.

Haliville’s leaders and military representatives, who received word that the Lab 709 team landed in Haliville, were waiting outside. Levi, dressed in a suit, was among them. The moment the elevator doors opened, all eyes turned to them.

Levi said, “Stella, you finally?”

But before he could finish, his eyes went wide as he stared at Cookie.

Levi jerked his head up, face full of shock. He pointed at Cookie then at Stella, asking, “This kid? You and that guy?”

He clutched his chest dramatically.

Levi said, “He was a beast.”

Everyone behind him froze, their faces blank with shock.

Stella sighed helplessly.

Murray cleared his throat, cutting Levi off. He said, “Ms. Carter, the military will take full responsibility for the safety of the Lab 709 team these next few days.”

Stella gave him a look, her expression unreadable. She replied, right.”

She didn’t show much emotion.

Caleb, with Stetson and his entourage in tow, asked, “Ms. Carter, what now?”

“Follow me,” Stella said, spinning around and heading for the conference room. Cookie scampered after her, and a crowd of big shots followed close behind.

The door to the hotel’s top–floor conference room swung open.

Inside, people who’d been chatting fell silent. At the front stood stunning woman in the latest Denim Kraft black silk gown, looking soft and almost ethereal. She turned, and the moment her eyes landed on Stella, her smile bloomed brilliantly.

Behind her, everyone bowed respectfully the instant they saw Stella.

“Sweetheart,” Cassie called out, opening her arms as she walked over, a wave of perfume following her.

Suddenly, Cassie felt a tug on her dress. She looked down and locked eyes with Cookie.

Cookie, nibbling on her bunny candy, raised her hand and greeted her cheerfully. She said, “Hi.”

Cassie fell silent.

Cassie blinked, feeling a strange, special warmth bubble up inside.

She smiled and lifted her hand in return. She said, “Hi.”

Cookie dug into her pocket again, pulled out another bunny candy, and handed it to her. She said, “Eat.”

Cassie took it without thinking, and before she knew it, she’d already bitten off the bunny’s ear.

Cookie’s eyes sparkled, and she gave a big thumbs–up.

Stella was speechless. From where she stood, the two were practically twins.

Stella found herself lost in thought.

Just as Stella was lost in thought, someone poked her shoulder. She turned to see Levi acting all sneaky. He said, “Stella, none of us old folks are planning to show up at Conrad’s chip launch tomorrow.”

As he spoke, Levi scoffed, clearly showing his contempt for Conrad.

Stella glanced at Levi, her tone casual. She asked, “Not even gonna watch the spectacle?”

Levi’s eyes lit up. He asked, “What kind of drama?”

Stella replied lazily, “It’s gonna be a good show.” She waved her hand at the Lab 709 crew nearby, and everyone she pointed at bowed their heads, showing her respect. “All of them are going and that includes Sebastian and me.”

Hearing this, Murray snapped his head up, and Stella’s eyes met him.

Their gazes locked. Back when the location leak happened, Conrad was a prime suspect, but with his reputation as the country’s number one chip expert, there was no way anyone could touch him.

“But what if he didn’t have that title anymore?” Stella had once said.

“Without this title?” Murray had once replied.

Those words from back then rang in Murray’s ears, and as their eyes met, it hit him. Stella hadn’t been joking.

Seeing that he understood, Stella said coolly, “Caleb.”

Caleb immediately replied, “Ms. Carter.”

Stella said, “Can you handle two things for me tomorrow?”

Caleb looked a little surprised, answering, “Sure, what do you

need?”

“Where’s Cassie? Get Cassie out here,” a sharp female voice yelled, as if she was ready to storm in.

Stella froze, looked up, her expression annoyed.

Cassie smiled playfully, recognizing the voice. “Looking for me?” she replied, the beauty mark below her eye adding to her charm. “I’d better go see what the fuss is about,” she said, sauntering toward the door.

Her subordinates were speechless.

They all exchanged weird, baffled looks.

Cassie, glowing with confidence, reached the doorway just as a slap came toward her. Before the hotel manager or security could react, a porcelain vase flew through the air, intercepting it faster than the hand could strike.
