All the top brass were there, and Hudson and Colten had been called in at the last minute.

“This is outrageous,” Bernard said, slamming the file onto the table, his anger palpable. Before him lay the bag containing brain tumor tissue from Estravian geneticist Yakov. Inside, the long–implanted Core One Chip 1.0 rested silently.

Sebastian sat among them in a black shirt, his icy presence untouchable. He said, “After midnight, all land, sea, and air routes will be locked down. No one enters or leaves, no exceptions.” His absolute authority froze any dissent, and no one dared object.

Jaxon, sitting nearby, looked grim and tense.

“I’ll be at the press conference tomorrow,” Bernard said, his voice steely and commanding.

That settled it. No one dared to say

Jaxon’s assistant hurried in and whispered something in his ear. Jaxon frowned. He said, “Excuse me, I have some personal matters I need to attend to.”

With that, he stood up, buttoning his suit as he went.

At the hotel, Eulalia sat on the floor, disheveled and defeated. Cassie strode over in her high heels and crouched down in front of her.

Cassie’s icy fingers tilted Eulalia’s chin up.

Cassie smiled and said, “I was planning to go to Jaffina soon, but you came to me first.” Cassie leaned in, her lips almost brushing Eulalia’s ear, whispering, “Go back and tell them. I’m coming to collect what’s mine.”

She stood up, looking down at Eulalia like she was nothing but a ant.

Eulalia gritted her teeth, saying, “You really think taking Cookie will ruin the relationship between the Porter and Knight families? Aren’t you afraid Jaxon will come after you?”

Cassie was speechless.

Cassie thought, ‘Cookie? What the hell is she talking about?

‘If she’s Cookie, then I’m a freaking waffle.’

“Throw her out,” Cassie said, her red lips parting as she spoke with lazy indifference.

Levi sidled up next to Stella, asking, “Hey, aren’t you going to do something?”

Stella glanced up, her eyes cool. She asked, “Do what, exactly?”

Levi’s eyes went wide. He asked, “You really don’t care if your friend gets screwed over?”

Cassie finished speaking and turned toward Stella, but Stella just lazily pointed behind her.

“Hand over the Ms. Knight,” a bodyguard said. He strode forward about to grab Cassie’s shoulder. Cassie didn’t even blink; she caught his wrist with one hand, and with a sharp crack, the whole room fell silent.

Stella was the only one who stayed cool, just shifting to the side and shooting Levi a look. She answered, “She doesn’t need

it.”

Levi was just stunned.

A snow–white Ragdoll cat sauntered out of the open presidential suite, let out a lazy meow, and hopped right into Cassie’s arms. It gave Eulalia and the others a frosty once–over.

Cassie arched a brow and said, “Show them the door.”

And just like that, Eulalia and her group were kicked out of the penthouse.

“Ms. Carter,” the hotel manager said, looking uneasy. “It’s just tha Ms. Porter said Mr. Knight’s daughter went missing, so…”

Stella just gave a lazy hum and replied, “If Jaxon asks, just tell him Cookie’s with me.”

The manager let out a sigh of relief and said, “Got it.” He left, looking much more at ease.

“So, whose daughter is Cookie?” Cassie asked, her long lashes fluttering as she looked at Stella with a gentle, charming gaze, no trace of the woman who just snapped a bodyguard’s wrist like it was nothing.

Stella gave her a lazy, meaningful look. She said, “Maybe she’s yours.”

Caleb was left speechless.

Murray just stood there, not saying a word.

Levi was just stunned.

Cassie rolled her eyes, with the cat in her arms, and pushed open the conference room door again. She picked up a bottle of sparkling water and said, “All the papers on the table need your signature.”

Cassie started looking for a bottle opener while talking.

Suddenly, something poked her leg. Cassie glanced down to see Cookie staring up at her with bright eyes, her tiny hands reaching up, palms open.

Cassie was speechless.

Cookie tilted her chin up, signaling she wanted some of the sparkling water.

“She wants you to give her the sparkling water,” Stella said, not even glancing up as she idly flipped through a mountain of paperwork; there must be dozens of them.

Cassie handed the sparkling

water to Cookie.

The next second, with a sharp click, this adorable little kid, who boked way too soft and cute for such a feat, just twisted the cap right off with her tiny hands.

Cassie’s jaw dropped.

Cookie said, “You’re welcome.”

Her cry came out in a soft, babyish voice.

Cassie was speechless.

Cookie gave a big thumbs–up and said, “Awesome.”

The Ragdoll cat hopped down from Cassie’s arms, sniffed Cookie, and gave her a little rub.

Stella pulled out a sealed folder and handed it to Caleb. She said “This is the list of lab members set to come back home. No leaks until it goes public.”

Caleb took it with both hands, looking dead serious.

This list was the main reason they’d all shown up today.

Caleb said, “Got it.”

Stella gave him a long, thoughtful look.

“Cassie,” Stella said, blazing through the paperwork and signing with one hand.

Cassie replied, “I’m listening.”

Stella said, “This is Levi Shea, director of the Kinetic University Tech Research Institute in Jaffina.” She introduced him lazily. “Leave your contact info with him. If you ever need authorization or have academic questions, just hit him up directly.”

As she spoke, she signed another document.

Levi was just stunned.

His heart was racing off the charts.

‘Holy crap, I can actually contact Lab 709 directly now, Levi thought, barely able to contain his excitement.

Cassie whipped out her phone without a word, but her eyes flickered nervously over that mountain of paperwork. No way she’d dare ignore the orders from those five old geezers before heading out.

Stella’s pen froze mid–signature.

Cassie’s heart skipped a beat.

Stella looked up at her, silent.

The atmosphere in the room suddenly grew charged and delicate.

Stella asked, “Cassie, what are these?” She pulled about nine documents from the thick stack and laid them out one by one on the conference table. The Lab 709 members behind Cassie just stood there, holding their breath, not daring to make a sound.

Cassie was speechless.

Stella said, “Well? Speak.”
