Shadows Between Us (Stella and Sebastian) novel Chapter 375

Chapter 375

Everything was left unsaid.

Stella thought, ‘Fine, whatever’

The drone overhead protested. ‘Stella, snuggle me, it wondered.

Stella looked up.

Outside the window, the sunset turned everything outside into molten gold.

She was wrapped in a blanket of warm, golden light, her whole body glowing softly.

“Go back and tell Blake he’d better behave at work, or else-” Stella gave a playful chuckle. “I’ll break his legs myself!”

The drone zoomed around her in circles, then snuggled up to her for attention. The whole scene left everyone staring in disbelief, and just like that, it zipped off back the way it came.

“I’ll leave the rest to you guys. I’m heading upstairs,” Stella said.

As the drone zipped away, Stella’s lashes drooped in lazy indifference. She didn’t even bother glancing at the bloody mess on the floor. She just turned and strolled toward the elevator.

A moment later, Tucker suddenly spoke up, “Honestly, I’m starting to feel sorry for those punks over in Special Ops.”

Ever since they lost to Mike’s Warriors last time, they’ve been dying for a rematch.

Now, with the Monterra military bigwigs personally signing off on the challenge and even naming a girl to lead the team, they’re all like powder kegs ready to explode.

Allan shrugged with a playful smirk, exchanged a glance with Tucker, and they both shared a knowing smile.

“Things are about to get interesting, Allan thought.

The elevator doors slid open.

Stella gave her neck a lazy roll.

Suddenly, she paused mid-step.

John was standing right in front of her.

“Ms. Carter,” John said, handing her a paper bag, his face giving nothing away. “Mr. Gray asked me to get this ready for you.”

Inside the bag was a brand-new shirt.

“Yeah.” Stella took the bag and was about to walk on, but John blocked her path.

She raised an eyebrow.

John managed a strained smile. “Maybe you should change first, Ms. Carter?”

Stella said, “Move.”

John stepped aside immediately, without the slightest resistance.

Inside the Control Tower, the staff were all celebrating the end of the crisis, cheering and laughing. Murray and Landen couldn’t stop grinning.

Meanwhile, Lucas, surrounded by the Yates family, kept peeking at the door. Suddenly, his eyes sparkled.

Everyone automatically turned to look.

Stella was leaning lazily against the wall, paper bag dangling from one hand, still knocking with the other. “Where’s Sebastian?”

Her white shirt was still streaked with blood.

Everyone stood there, left speechless.

Landen said, “Dr. Miracle, Mr. Gray seems to have gone to the restroom.”

Stella kept her cool and said nothing.

Just then, Lucas tugged at the hem of her shirt.

She glanced down to find Lucas looking up at her with those big sparkling eyes, his tiny hand pulling her toward the other side of the hallway.

In the lounge, when Lincoln saw Stella being dragged closer by Lucas, he nervously swallowed. “Ms.-”

He barely got the word out.

“Move,” Stella said, giving him a quick glance.

Lincoln nodded. “Alright.”

Lincoln hustled out of the way in a flash.

Stella tried the doorknob, but it was locked from the inside.

“Sebastian,” she called, tapping her knuckles on the door.

After a while, Sebastian’s voice came from inside, “Yes.”

“Open the door,” Stella said.

After a moment, Sebastian’s voice was raspy. “I-”

“Save it. Unless you want me to break this door down,” Stella cut him off, her voice icy. There was zero room for argument.

There was no sound from inside.

Stella said, “Sebastian, I’m counting to three.”

As soon as she finished, Lucas quickly covered his eyes with his tiny hands, then spun around and plastered himself against the wall.

Lincoln lifted his hand and slammed himself against the wall. He copied-pasted Lucas’s moves, not missing a beat.

Stella didn’t even blink. “Three!”

She was just about to kick the door down when, in the next second, it flew open. Sebastian, pale, grabbed her wrist and dragged her inside. The door slammed shut behind them with a bang.

Lucas and Lincoln were stunned.

Lucas tilted his head, a puzzled look on his cherubic face. He piter-pattered over to the door and knocked.

Inside the room, Stella was pressed up against the door.

Sebastian had his hands resting on either side of her shoulders, unched over. He was drenched in cold sweat, as he’d just been dragged out of the water.

He lifted his head to look at her, his lips, usually cold and thin, now curling into a soft, puppy-like smile.

There was still blood on his lips. He’d clearly just thrown up. He looked pale and fragile.

Sebastian whispered, “Stella.”

Stella’s expression was ice-cold. “Don’t say a word.”

Without hesitation, she hooked her hand around the back of his neck and pulled him into a fierce kiss.

Sebastian’s eyes fluttered, caught off guard.

With the taste of blood mixing in their kiss, his heart trembled violently.

His fingers gently traced her cheek, eyes filled with pain and desire. Beyond the cold, snowy breath and the agony twisting through his body, Sebastian surrendered himself to Stella’s presence, letting her completely overwhelm him.

After a long moment, Stella said, her face still blank, “Sit there.”

She jerked her chin at the couch.

Sebastian obediently sat down, eyes glued to her the whole time. He sat up straight, arms and legs in perfect order.

With a frosty expression, Stella wrung out a towel and strode back over to Sebastian.

She leaned down and perched herself on the bare coffee table right across from him.

Her face was still grim, but she slowed her movements, carefully dabbing away the blood at the corner of Sebastian’s lips.

“So you knew all these years that someone kept poisoning you, and you still drank it, just to cover up the fact that your blood is the cure for the gene sequence virus?” Stella said, her voice col and flat.

He used poison to hide the strange qualities in his blood, and his abnormal blood kept the toxins in check. They fought each other, keeping him alive by a thread.

Even when they met, and he was already falling apart, he still managed to hang on.

And Sebastian wanted to die, but he never finished himself off. Besides the truth about Eric and Holly’s deaths, there was another reason.

So long as he was alive, if any country ever unleashed the gene sequence virus, he, the living antidote, could save tens of

millions.

That was also why Sebastian had such a high price on his head in the assassination rankings.

Sebastian didn’t say

a word.
