The next day, Stella sat out in the courtyard, while Lucas snuggled in her arms as she basked in the sunlight.

With one hand, she leafed through the Corpus Hippocraticum, one of those secret treasures from a family in Jaffina. She looked totally relaxed and lazy.

Off to the side, the plain plant was looking all wilted under the sun, but it could only stew in silence.

In front of her was a plate.

Big Ben, Snowball, and Scrappy pressed up against the stone table, staring intently.

Eggie was perched right on top of Snowball’s head, tilting his head and chirping.

‘Seriously?’ thought plain plant, utterly speechless. ‘What a bunch of morons! Dammit!’

After a moment, dead inside, the plain plant shot out a bean-sized drop of essence from its core, landing it perfectly in the plate.

“Wow!” Scrappy shouted, clapping his hands. “Stella, it’s born! It’s born! It really did it!”

Big Ben, Snowball, and Eggie were stunned.

Stella didn’t even bother to look up. She just let out a lazy “Okay flipped the page, and said, “Go on.”

‘Are you kidding me?’ the plain plant thought. ‘I’m seriously about to blow a fuse!”

With a whoosh, its long, skinny leaves suddenly shot up several feet, swaying around like seaweed showing off in the deep

ocean.

Right now, the plain plant had its leaves on its hips, striking a sassy pose.

‘Look at me. I’m six feet tall today!’ the plain plant bragged to itself. Bet you’re scared now, huh?”

“Hmm?” Stella lifted her eyes with a lazy look.

‘That’s it. I’m done for!’ the plain plant thought, utterly defeated Ugh, just let me die already!’

Suddenly, a big shadow loomed overhead, and the plain plant collapsed with a dramatic flop, instantly turning dry and yellow.

“Stella, are you actually taking anything in at that speed?” Allan asked, cradling Obsidian Orchid in his arms.

He’d even picked out the best sunbathing spot for his precious pet, but out of the corner of his eye, he caught Stella flipping through the book like a speed reader.

He dropped down beside her, snatched the book from her hands and raised an eyebrow. “How about I quiz you?”

Stella and Lucas froze for a moment.

Allan lowered his head, full of confidence.

For a long moment, Allan was stunned. “What the hell is this supposed to mean?”

Lucas rolled his eyes and scoffed.

Not far away, Sebastian was chatting with John when Allan cupped his hands around his mouth and called out, craning his neck, “Sebastian! Can you do something about your Stella? She’s acting like I’m some kind of uncultured idiot!”

Stella, who hadn’t said a single word from start to finish and somehow got dragged into this mess out of nowhere, just stared at Allan, utterly speechless.

“So, how did you two meet?” Stella asked, genuinely curious.

Allan’s eyes lit up.

“Oh! So you’re finally curious about me, huh?” Allan teased, grinning.

With a deadpan look, Stella just picked up the book again.

“Hey, hey, don’t do that,” Allan said, blocking her book with his hand and flashing a carefree grin. He kicked back in his chair and added. “I’ve saved his life, and he’s saved mine. That’s just how it goes between friends.”

Back then, if it hadn’t been for Sebastian, Allan wouldn’t have made it out of Jaffina alive.

As if something just popped into his head, Allan propped his chin on one hand, wiggling his brows. “I know all there is to know about Sebastian, you know. Got any more questions, Stella Just ask. I’ll tell you everything.”

Stella asked, “What’s MDT?”

Yesterday, Sebastian just dodged the question.

Allan raised an eyebrow. “MDT?”

He looked confused for a second, then suddenly understood; he didn’t even notice Snowball and plain plant tensing up right

next to him.

“Oh, that’s-” Allan began.

The next second, Allan got a stack of papers shoved right into his mouth.

Allan looked up, only to find Sebastian standing right behind him, giving him a cold, deadpan stare. His eyes practically glinted with ice.

Allan blinked, giving Sebastian his best puppy-eyed look of innocence.

“Here’s the shortlist for Blaze’s first round,” Sebastian said, handing the thick stack of papers over to Stella.

It was a thick stack.

Allan got up and squeezed in next to Snowball.

Snowball was full of disdain.

Stella took the stack and casually flipped through it, quickly getting the gist. Meanwhile, Allan kept tutting as he checked out this year’s list of new recruits.

‘Damn, these newbies look like they’re ready to hit the ground running! he thought.

As they were chatting, Stella’s phone chimed with a notification.

She glanced at her phone, and a giant old sheep avatar popped up on the screen.

Sheep: [Young Sovereign, I’ve arrived!]

There was a brief pause.

Shark: [Okay.]

After replying, Stella looked up at the plain plant and said, “Keep going.”

The plain plant wondered, ‘Seriously? Again?’

Another one was right into the plate.

The plain plant drooped in despair.

Sebastian and Allan didn’t know what to say for a moment.

Sebastian watched the plain plant in silence, and for some reason, he couldn’t help but feel a little guilty.

After a moment, he reached out and held it on his knee. The plain plant dove straight into his arms, burying itself and wiggling around like crazy.

“Why is she picking on me?’ the plain plant sobbed to itself.

Sheep: [They even gave me a little red hat and a tiny flag!]

Stella froze and wondered, ‘Wait, what?’

She frowned, but the very next second, her phone started blaring like crazy. Zack was calling her, and it felt like a death

sentence.

Stella picked up.

“Stella!” Zack was totally losing it on the other end. “Mr. Hawthorne’s gone! I lost him!”

Right now, Zack and Tripp were running all over the airport with a whole bunch of people, just one step away from throwing themselves on the floor and bawling their eyes out.

Stella said, “Hold on a sec.”

Shark: [Didn’t you bring your assistant?]

Sheep: [Yep, I brought one! Check out our bus group pic!]

Stella froze. She stared at the two old guys, each sporting a bright red cap that said [Haliville International Travel Agency] and waving a tiny travel agency flag in their hands..

‘Ridiculous doesn’t even begin to cover it. This is next-level absurd, Stella thought.

Stella took a deep breath and said, “He’s not missing. He just left with the travel agency.”

“The travel agency?” Zack froze mid-cry, looking completely shell-shocked.
