After getting hit several times, Carter finally snapped.
“She’s just some bitch’s bastard gold digger! You’re my dad–why are you siding with her?! Did she sleep with you too?!”
Hearing that, Vincent kicked Carter so hard he flew back several feet.
“How did I raise such a worthless son?!”
Carter wiped the blood from his mouth, glaring at his father, unable to believe what was happening.
He’d completely lost it.
“Mom! Are you just gonna stand there?! Your husband’s beating me in front of everyone over some whore!”
Carter’s mother stepped forward, her face cold with fury.
Carter thought she was coming to help him. A flicker of relief crossed his face-
And then she slapped him across the face.
“I don’t care how you act at home, but when it comes to Miss Ashford, you better watch your mouth!”
Carter completely lost it.
“Are you insane?! She drugged me! And you’re yelling at me?! Am I even your son?!”
He didn’t notice that with every word he said, the people around him looked more and more horrified.
“Is the Westbrook heir brain–dead? That’s the Ashford heiress!”
“Chairman Ashford is obsessed with his daughter. If he gets pissed, we’re all screwed.”
Hearing that, the other elite families started getting nervous:
“How the hell does the Westbrook family raise their kids? Don’t drag us down with you!”
“Seriously. I’ve got contracts with the Westbrooks. Now I’m thinking twice about signing.”
“Same here. I had a project lined up with them. Guess I’ll find someone else.”
Seeing deals and partnerships slipping away, Vincent panicked.
“You little bastard–get over here and apologize to Miss Ashford! On your knees!”
Carter froze, thinking he’d misheard.
But when the bodyguards dragged him over and shoved him in front of me, he started thrashing like a wild animal.
“I didn’t do anything wrong! Why should I apologize?! This bitch set me up! I’m gonna kill her!”
His screaming only made Vincent more determined.

He waved his hand. The guards forced Carter’s head down.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
In the massive ballroom, the sound of Carter’s forehead slamming into the floor echoed clearly.
By the time they let him up, his forehead was bleeding, his face flushed red, his eyes burning with hatred as he stared at me.
I looked down at him and raised an eyebrow.
“You still look pretty pissed. Got something to say?”
Carter’s mother spoke up.
“I’m so sorry, Miss Ashford. This is my fault. I failed to raise him properly.”
“We’ll take him home and discipline him. And we’ll bring him to your home personally so he can apologize in person.”
Carter stared at his mother in disbelief as she groveled in front of me.
Then his father spoke.
“Miss Ashford, I’ll make this right.”
“Please, don’t be mad at my brat. Don’t let Chairman Ashford hear about this.”
“Hear about what?”
A deep voice rang out.
The crowd immediately parted, creating a path.
Chairman Ashford–who’d been too busy with work to attend the gala–suddenly appeared before everyone.
