Chapter 8
The door opened again.
The captain of the Economic Crimes Investigation Unit walked in.
Holding a thick file with two stern officers behind him, walking straight to Linda.
“Linda Chase?”
Linda was startled. “What… what do you want? I’m here to bail out my son!”
The captain showed her an arrest warrant.
“You’re suspected of using subsidiary companies under the Chase Group to assist Holden Chase in massive money laundering activities linked to international drug trafficking networks.”
“This is an arrest warrant. Come with us.”
Linda’s face went deathly pale.
Her legs gave out as she collapsed to the floor.
“What… what money laundering? I don’t understand… I didn’t know…”
“Mr. King! Mr. King, say something!”
Warren panicked too and instinctively stepped back.
“Mrs. Chase, I only handle criminal defense. Economic crimes aren’t my area.”
I watched this scene unfold and spoke slowly.
“Mr. King, don’t rush off. You can’t escape either.”
“As the Chase Group’s legal counsel, those fake contracts, those cooked books–which one doesn’t have your signature?”
“Accomplice, accessory, at least five years. You know well, right?”
Warren’s briefcase dropped to the floor.
He stared at me in horror.
“You… how do you know? You…”
I stood up and walked over to Linda, looking down at her from above.

Chapter 8
“Mrs. Chase, you just asked me whether the Chase family’s connections could crush me.”
“Now let me ask you something-”
“When the Chase empire comes crashing down, will those so–called connections come to save you, or will they stomp you the ground?”
Linda was dragged away, her screams echoing through the hallway.
“I’m innocent! That bitch set me up! Holden! Save your mother!”
The interrogation room fell quiet again.
The Economic Crimes captain turned and extended his hand to me:
“Sutton Law, thank you for your hard work.”
“Three years undercover collecting evidence.”
“This operation’s success is largely thanks to the core financial records you provided.”
I shook his hand.
“It’s my duty, just doing my job.”
That’s right.
I’m not just the Law family’s daughter or just a lawyer.
I’m also a special legal consultant to the city bureau’s Economic Crimes Unit.
And the informant in this three–year undercover operation.
My engagement to Holden?
Just a setup from the start.
A setup to get close to the Chase Group’s inner circle and obtain evidence of money laundering.
I endured his arrogance, his disrespect, that stepsister’s provocations–ALL for this day.
“However…”
The captain frowned. “That Jade’s testimony is crucial.”
“She’s the middleman for the drug source, but right now she’s incoherent.”
“The hospital says her throat’s burned out and her brain’s severely damaged too.”
