Shadows Drift Beyond Memory by Xarin Vale novel Chapter 7

Sienna posted on Instagram: Boysnight out. No women nagging us. This is the life!

The photo showed Callum in a club booth with one arm around a girl and a drink in his other hand.

Comments flooded in from their mutual friends.

Damn, Callum’s finally got some backbone. Actually daring to go to clubs and hug girls now.

Sienna, you better hide this from Rory or Callum’s gonna be sleeping on the couch when he gets home.

Yeah, don’t screw him over or he’s gonna threaten to jump off a bridge again.

Callum, didn’t think you’d pull the fake it till the baby’s bornmove. Thought you actually loved Rory. Guess all guys are the same in the end.

Sienna replied in the comments: Anyway! My boy’s about to be single and free!

My boy’s perfect. Some bitch just didn’t appreciate him. How’s that his fault?

I saw it all.

I knew Sienna posted it for me to see.

So I liked it.

That set off a storm.

HOLY SHIT, Rory actually saw it! Sienna, delete it for Callum’s sake!

A bunch of people slid into my DMs.

Wait, are you and Callum really getting divorced?

Some tried to talk me out of it: All guys are like this. Your kid’s so young. Just tough it out.

What happened? Spill.

These people didn’t care about me. They just wanted gossip.

I didn’t reply to any of them.

My lawyer friend hooked me up with her firm.

They drafted the divorce papers and sent me a PDF to review.

I looked it over carefully. It seemed fair.

I took screenshots, unblocked Callum, and sent them to him.

[Come home and sign the divorce papers.]

[Once you sign, you’re free.]

Chapter 7

He sent back a long voice message.

I didn’t listen. I blocked him again.

Even by late that night, Callum still hadn’t come home.

But I knew that with his pride, once he was convinced our daughter wasn’t his, he’d divorce me.

It was just a matter of time.

After soothing our daughter back to sleep when she woke up crying, I was exhausted and ready to go to bed.

But then I heard the front door open.

Callum was back.

I didn’t want him bothering me, so I went to lock the bedroom doorbut he shoved it open before I could.

I fell to the floor.

Callum came in, yanked me up, and threw me onto the bed.

Then he climbed on top of me, reeking of alcohol.

I shoved him as hard as I could.

Get off me!

Callum grabbed my face and forced me to look at him.

What’s wrong with sleeping with my own wife?

Isn’t that why you married me? So I could sleep with you?

We’re getting divorced!

Who said I’m divorcing you?

Callum’s smile was icecold.

I’ve thought it over. Why the hell should I divorce you?
