Elena almost laughed at how composed and righteous he looked.

Between the Hawthornes and the Harts, that many people had managed to keep it from her all this time.
“There’s nothing to talk about. Sophia, let’s go.”
She had no interest in standing there watching the Hawthorne family pretend.
She picked up her things and walked out with Sophia.
Victor started to step forward, but Victoria stopped him with a scoff. “Why bother? She was with Nathan for five years and now she’s making a scene over something this small. If she really loved him, would she care about Camille?”
Even Camille sometimes found Victoria’s logic twisted in an almost impressive way, but she did not dare comment.
Right then, Nathan called.
Camille answered at once. “Honey…”
“Why aren’t you here yet? Do you need me to pick you up?” Nathan asked, his tone unusually gentle.
The past few days he had been moody because of Charles‘ attitude, distant even with her.
Today, at least, he sounded softer.
“No, it’s okay. I’ll head over myself,” Camille replied sweetly.
After hanging up, she left.
Once she was gone, Victor turned on Victoria. “You really don’t think ahead, do you? Daniel and his son are practically lining up to move Charles into their place and take control of those shares. You’ve seen how Charles treats Elena. Why are you picking fights with her? And don’t forget her connection to the Kingsleys.”
Victoria widened her eyes. “You’re not thinking of buttering up to Elena, are you?”
“Don’t put it like that.”

Victor lit a cigarette.
“Charles made it clear. Nathan cannot fall out with Elena.”
“What about Camille?” Victoria snapped. “She’s carrying Nathan’s child.”
“Nathan won’t only have one child,” Victor said coldly.

Before heading to dinner, Camille deliberately removed her foundation, making the handprint on her cheek stand out even more.
When she entered the private dining room at the steakhouse and sat down, Nathan stood and handed her a bouquet of roses with both hands.
“For you.”
“Thank you, honey.”
She tilted her face slightly.

nille went still.
But his mood had been unstable these past few days. She did not dare challenge him.
She forced a smile that looked more painful than tears. “Okay…”
The waiter soon brought out their food. Nathan was attentive, cutting her steak, placing food on her plate.
For a moment, it felt like the old days, before Elena appeared, when he used to treat her with that same warmth.
“Honey, should we get some wine?” Camille asked, feeling bold.

The words had barely left her mouth when she saw the look on his face and felt her stomach tighten.
“You’re pregnant. Why would you drink?” Nathan asked.
He had deliberately not ordered wine because of that.
Camille laughed awkwardly. “I guess I’m still getting used to it. Never mind. No wine.
Nathan did not press further.
“You’re pregnant. No alcohol. It’s not good for you or the baby,” he said gently.
“Okay.”
She smiled sweetly. Nathan studied her, something unreadable in his eyes.
“What is it?” she asked softly. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
His lips pressed into a thin line. “Camille… maybe we should get divorced first.”
Her hand trembled. The knife and fork slipped from her fingers and clattered loudly against the plate.
“What did you just say?”
For a second, she thought she had misheard.
Nathan stood, then lowered himself onto one knee in front of her, gripping her hands tightly. “I know this is unfair to you. But you heard Charles. He only recognizes Elena.”
He continued steadily, “Elena made it clear. She can forgive me, but only if we divorce. You focus on the pregnancy. Once I secure the shares, we’ll remarry. I’ll give you the biggest wedding anyone’s ever seen.”
Every word shifted the blame neatly onto Elena.
The color drained from Camille’s lips. So that was it. Elena had forced him into this.
No wonder she had been so smug earlier. She knew Nathan would bend for the shares.
“Can’t we just forget about the shares?” Camille asked quietly.
She had gone public with their relationship, risked everything, and now he wanted to divorce her for money.
She could not accept that.
