Chapter 109 Quiet Ripples.
Elena did not know the exact timing. She only knew it had been frequent.
“What’s the occasion?” Grant teased. “Every time I ask you to come visit, you say you’re swamped. Now you show up on your own?”

Elena handed him a jewelry box. “Could you help me sell this and donate the proceeds? I don’t have any use for it.”
Grant did not press for details. He knew Malcolm and Vivian had been comfortable financially. No matter how expensive the set was, it was not something she needed to hold onto.
“Of course,” he said.
He pulled a worn ledger from his drawer and adjusted his glasses. “Let me log it properly.”
He flipped through page after page.
Elena glanced down and froze. One page listed Malcolm. The next page, Malcolm again. Then anothe entries went on and on, all donations made in her adoptive father’s name.

owed and kept scanning the page, and then her eyes caught a familiar name.
“Yes?”
She pointed to the entry. “Alexander came here before?”
On the same date, Malcolm’s donation was recorded first, and right below it, Alexander’s.
July fifteenth, eight years ago.
Elena tried to recall that day. The memory felt distant and hazy. Had she crossed paths with Alexander back then while accompanying Malcolm? She could not remember.
Grant tapped his temple and gave a helpless smile. “At my age, I barely remember what I had for breakfast. I’m sure he did.”
Elena decided she would ask Alexander herself.
“Please find a buyer for this,” she said, closing the box gently. “Donate everything under

After settling the details, she and Sophia left. Sophia had her driver take her home.
When Elena returned to the villa, she stepped out of the car and was about to go inside when a soft female voice drifted from the entryway.
“Alexander doesn’t like ginger. Don’t put any in the chicken soup. Just keep it on low so it stays warm. He’ll be up in about thirty minutes.”
“Yes, Ms. Scott,” Martha replied respectfully.
Elena stepped into the living room just as a woman turned to leave. She wore a cream tailored skirt suit, her long hair neatly pinned up, a pearl necklace resting against her collarbone. She carried herself with effortless grace.
It was the same woman who had stood beside Alexander the day Elena had dinner with Chloe.
“Hello, Mrs. Kingsley,” the woman said, pausing. “I’m Fiona Scott, Alexander’s private secretary. I just returned to the country.”

meet you,” Elena replied, shaking her hand lightly.
Fiona’s eyes lingered on Elena’s face, searching for a reaction.
Elena met her gaze calmly. When she noticed the scrutiny, she smiled faintly. “Is there something else you needed?”
Fiona returned the smile. “No. Alexander had a few drinks tonight. His friends were worse off, so I drove him home. I hope you don’t misunderstand.”
“Why would I?” Elena said evenly. “You’re his secretary. Bringing him home is part of your job. If I got upset over that, I’d be impossible.”
Fiona pressed her lips together briefly. “I told Martha how he likes his soup. Don’t forget to wake him.”
“Thank you for letting me know.”
Fiona left soon

Inside the car, Fiona watched Elena’s reflection fade from the rearview mirror.
She did not like her.

Elena had been too calm. Most wives would have reacted differently seeing a female secretary fuss over their husband. Elena had remained composed, even thanked her.
Fiona did not understand why Alexander would choose a woman who had spent five years publicly attached to Nathan. Marriage certificate or not, that history did not vanish.
Once the Ferrari disappeared, Elena went inside.
Martha stepped out of the kitchen. “Mrs. Kingsley, you’re back.”
Elena nodded and went upstairs without another word.
