Chapter 178 What She Heard
Elena raised an eyebrow slightly but didn’t dwell on it. She headed straight to the office.

Once inside, she made herself a strong cup of coffee, the kind that could actually wake her up, then called Hannah and Sophia into her office to go over the upcoming interview.
They discussed the details thoroughly before wrapping up.
Sophia left first.
Hannah stayed behind for a moment, her gaze lingering on Elena’s face.
“Hey… you don’t look great. Your face is really flushed. You should check your temperature.”
Elena paused, then reached into her drawer and pulled out a thermometer.
A minute later, she looked at the reading and let out a quiet breath.
“Yeah… that’s definitely a fever.”
“Then go to the hospital,” Hannah said immediately, her tone firm. “Don’t push through it. If it gets worse, you’ll regret it.”
Elena didn’t argue.
She knew better than to ignore her health. She still had a company to lead, and Velmora Media wasn’t going to beat Aetherline Media if she ran herself into the ground.
She quickly submitted a leave request through the system and headed to the hospital.
The process was straightforward. Registration, consultation, prescription.
Luckily, it was just a seasonal cold.
Nothing serious.
After picking up her medication, she headed toward the elevators, but the crowd was overwhelming. After waiting through several rounds with no success, she gave up and took the stairs instead.
She had just gone down two flights when a voice drifted up from below.

Elena stopped mid–step.
That voice sounded way too familiar.
She slowed down, careful not to make any noise, and glanced down the stairwell.
There they were.
Camille, still in her hospital gown, standing with a doctor in a white coat.

“Miss Hart, it’s not that I don’t want to help,” the doctor said, clearly uneasy. “I already helped you falsify an ultrasound report. Where am I supposed to get you a baby boy? That’s illegal.”
“That’s your problem to solve, not mine,” Camille replied coldly. “You still have months. You’re an OB–GYN, don’t tell me you can’t figure something out.”
She let out a small, mocking laugh.
“And if you won’t help…”
She leaned slightly closer, her voice dropping.
“I’ll make sure everyone finds out about that fake report you signed. You really want your ending over something like this?”
There was a sharp, almost vicious glint in her eyes.
Elena felt a chill run through her.
She quietly stepped back, careful not to be seen, then turned and made her way stairs before slipping out through the emergency exit.
Only after she was outside did she finally stop.

Her heart was still pounding hard in her chest. She hadn’t expected Camille to go this far.
Faking a pregnancy was one thing. But planning to secure a baby to pass it off as her own?
That crossed every line.
At the same time, though, she just handed her the perfect opening. A faint, cold smile tugged at Elena’s lips.
I really want to see what Nathan’s face looks like when he finds out the truth.
She didn’t hesitate.

She pulled out her phone and called him. The line connected almost instantly.
“Elena?” Nathan’s voice came through, filled with barely contained excitement.

“Did you change your mind? I knew you would. I’m the only one who’s ever truly treated you right. Whatever Alexander is giving you, it won’t last.”
Elena’s expression turned colder.
If she didn’t need to tell him about Camille, she would’ve hung up already.
“I have something to tell you. Can you meet?”
“Of course. Anytime.”
“That restaurant we used to go to,” Elena said evenly. “Thirty minutes. If you’re late, don’t bother coming.”
“Got it. I’ll be there.”
She ended the call and headed straight for the restaurant.
Meanwhile, Nathan grabbed his jacket and rushed out of his office. As he reached the elevator lobby, he ran into Evan.
Evan raised an eyebrow, a teasing smirk on his face.
“Well, look at you. In a hurry. What is it, finally landed a deal?”
Nathan’s expression darkened instantly.
These days, most of Hawthorne Group’s business had fallen into Daniel and Evan’s hands. He couldn’t even get access to new projects. If it weren’t for the Hart family’s support, he would’ve been pushed out long ago.
But none of that mattered.
Elena was coming back.
Once he secured Charles’s approval and got his shares, Daniel and Evan wouldn’t even be worth mentioning.
“What’s with that face?” Evan stepped closer, his tone mocking. “You look like you want to hit
me.”
Nathan’s fists clenched at his sides.

“Don’t get too comfortable,” he said coldly. “Who ends up in charge of Hawthorne Group is still undecided.”
Evan laughed openly.
“Sure. I’ll be waiting to see that.”
He turned and walked away without another glance.
Nathan stood there for a second, jaw tight, before stepping into the elevator. Soon after, he was on the road, heading straight to the restaurant.
The moment he walked in, his eyes landed on her.
That familiar, slender figure.
Maybe it was the time apart, but Elena carried herself differently now. There was a quiet confidence about her that hadn’t been there before. She wore a black satin blouse with soft puffed sleeves paired with tailored pants, clean and polished, yet unmistakably femini
“Hey,” Nathan said, a smile already forming as he approached. “Babe—”
“Don’t.”
Elena cut him off immediately, her voice sharp. “Don’t call me that.”
Nathan paused, then gave an awkward chuckle and lightly tapped his lips. “Right. Sorry.”
He sat down across from her and instinctively reached for her hand. Elena pulled back before he could touch her.
“I didn’t ask you here for that,” she said coldly. “If you’re feeling restless, go find someone else.”
Her gaze was direct, the disgust in her eyes impossible to miss.
Nathan felt something in his chest sink.
This isn’t about getting back together. Not even close.
