Before he could even push himself back up, Evan had already picked up a loose brick and walked back toward him.
There was no hesitation in his expression, only cold, simmering anger.
Nathan looked up just in time to see Evan raise the brick high and bring it down with brutal force onto his leg. A sharp crack rang out.
Nathan’s face went pale as a scream tore out of his throat.
“Leave the country,” Evan said, his voice flat and final. “Or next time, it won’t just be your leg
He showed no fear, no remorse.
He calmly took out a tissue, wiped his hands clean, and walked back into the bar as if nothing had happened.
Nathan lay there, unable to breathe, his entire body shaking uncontrollably.
Pain swallowed everything.
Tears streamed down his face without him even realizing it.
It hurts… I can’t even think… it just won’t stop…
Through the blur of his vision, a figure appeared in front of him.
A man.
“I’m a doctor,” the man said. “Do you need help?”
The tone was steady, almost too steady.
Nathan didn’t think twice. He nodded desperately. “My leg… my right leg… please… help me.
He reached out instinctively.
The man reached back and took his hand.
For a moment, Nathan thought he had found a way out. He struggled to sit up and then something felt wrong.
He looked into the man’s eyes, cold and completely devoid of warmth.
No… something’s off.
Driven by instinct, Nathan shoved him away with all the strength he had left.
Gideon wasn’t expecting it and staggered back a step, his expression turning darker instantly.

He moved forward again, grabbed Nathan’s tic, and yanked him down hard.
Nathan crashed back onto the ground.
“Who are you?” Nathan demanded, barely holding himself together through the pain.
Gideon didn’t answer.
He stepped down on Nathan’s right hand and pressed hard, grinding into it with deliberate force. Then he crouched down, his voice low and icy.
“When you were screwing people over, did you ever think you’d end
up
like this?”
Nathan screamed, the pain tearing through him.

Somewhere in the chaos, he managed to grab a sharp piece of rock and swung it toward Gideon’s face.
Gideon reacted a fraction too late.
He turned his head just enough immediately.
and the sharp edge sliced across his neck instead. Blood began to flow
He reached up, touched the wound, and glanced at the red on his fingers
Then he let go.
Nathan’s leg was already beyond saving.
Even if he made it to a hospital, he would likely never recover fully.
“From the heir of the Hawthorne family… to this,” Gideon said with a quiet, mocking laugh. “That’s what happens when you keep crossing the line.”
He stood up and turned away.
Behind him, people had already started reacting.
“Wait, isn’t that Nathan? This is huge…”
“Someone call 911, don’t let him die out here…”
Gideon pressed his hand against his neck as he headed toward his
car, but then his steps slowed.
Elena was there. She had come back. Her eyes immediately locked onto the blood on his neck as she walked
toward him.
“Get in,” she said without hesitation. “We’re going to the hospital.”
Nathan hadn’t held back. The cut wasn’t fatal, but it was serious enough. Gideon didn’t argue. He got into
the car.
Elena started the engine and pulled onto the road. The car was quiet, filled with a heavy, unspoken tension.

At a red light, Elena reached into her bag, took out a silk scarf, and handed it to him.
“Hold this against it,” she said,
Gideon took it and pressed it to his neck, then glanced at her profile. “You’ve been quiet.”
Elena kept her eyes on the road.
I knew he wouldn’t let it go… that’s why I came back.
“You didn’t have to go after him,” she said finally. “Not because of me.”
“He crossed you,” Gideon replied simply.
“That’s over.” Elena said, her tone steady. “He’s not worth you risking your future.”
To her, Nathan was no longer anything significant.
Just another stranger.
Gideon narrowed his eyes slightly but didn’t argue.
After a moment, he added, “I didn’t do much. His leg was already gone. He’s not walking that off.”
Elena fell silent again.****

She hadn’t expected Evan to go that far. A few minutes later, they pulled up to the hospital.
Elena stayed with him and walked him into the ER.
Despite the late hour, the place was crowded, filled with patients in every condition imaginable.
Since Gideon’s bleeding had slowed, they had no choice but to wait.
Gideon glanced at her and spoke first.
“Sorry,” he said quietly. “Didn’t mean to make you worry.”
