Chapter 276 Lines Drawn
It suddenly made sense.
Why Elena had the nerve to publish something like this. She had Alexander backing her.

No matter how big this got, surely he wouldn’t fire his own wife. The tone in the room shifted almost immediately.
Mockery turned into envy.
“Must be nice,” someone muttered under their breath. “Marry rich and do whatever you want.”
The words hit Camille like a needle.
Her expression tightened as she stood up, her voice sharp. “Who said she’s untouchable just because she married Alexander? Do you really think she matters more to him than the Hawke family or the Sterlings?”
The room went quiet again.
That… was a fair point.
Everyone knew Alexander’s reputation. Cold, calculating, driven by profit above all else.
If Elena had caused trouble big enough to affect those families, there was no way he would let it slide.
Some even began to speculate that she might be thrown out of the Kingsley family within days.
Still, Camille’s reaction felt a little too intense. The employees exchanged glances, then quickly adjusted their tone.
“You’re right, Camille. She’s way too confident. Alexander might drop her any day now.”
“Exactly. Not like you, you’ve got everything going for you. Mr. Hawthorne even picks you up from work these days, right?”
“Seriously, you’ve got the perfect setup. Career and relationship, both thriving.”
The flattery worked.
Camille’s expression softened, satisfaction flickering in her eyes as she sat back down.
She glanced at the screen, where Elena’s profile photo was displayed alongside the title “Senior Journalist.”

A faint, dismissive smile curved her lips.
“Overestimating herself,” she muttered.
Going up against Landon, and expecting Alexander and the Kingsley family to protect her?
Ridiculous. She would just wait. Wait for the day Elena got pushed out.
Meanwhile, Elena’s phone had been ringing nonstop. Evelyn had called several times.
She didn’t pick up.
Instead, Sophia received the call and walked over with a helpless look. “Elena… it’s my aunt.
Not wanting to put Sophia in an awkward position, Elena took the phone.
“Mom-”
She barely got the word out before Evelyn’s voice came through, sharp and anxious. “What exactly did you post? Does Alexander know about this?”
In the background, Walter’s voice could be heard faintly.
“Let the younger generation handle their work…”
“Dad, this isn’t about interfering,” Evelyn snapped before lowering her voice again. “If this keeps going, something’s going to go wrong.”
She covered the receiver briefly, then continued, “I don’t care what happened. Take the article down. Now.”
She had always known Elena’s work would eventually stir up trouble.
The Sterling family and the Hawke family might not carry the same weight as the Kingsleys, but on the surface, the relationships were still there, and there was no reason to let things turn ugly.
Elena tightened her grip on the phone.
She was still thinking about how to respond when a servant’s voice came through from the other end. “Ma’am, Mr. Kingsley is back.”
Evelyn turned. Alexander had just walked in, removing his coat as he handed it to the staff.
Seeing the phone in her hand, he extended his hand slightly. Evelyn passed it to him.

But the screen had already gone dark.
Elena had ended the call.

Evelyn frowned, anxiety deepening. “What are the two of you doing? What’s going on with Landon? Does Elena even know who he really is?”
She hoped this was all a misunderstanding. That Elena had acted without knowing. Alexander’s expression remained calm, unreadable.
“She knows,” he said simply.
That single sentence shattered Evelyn’s last bit of hope.
“She knows? And she still did this?” Evelyn’s eyes widened in disbelief before another thought struck her. “Did you two fight? Is she doing this out of spite?”
Lately, the two of them hadn’t been staying at Kingsley Manor.
But something between the two of them clearly felt off. She had even called Martha to ask about it, and Martha had only given her vague, hesitant answers.
Alexander’s tone remained even. “I knew about it beforehand. The report was approved by senior management. I asked her to publish it.”
Evelyn’s eyes widened, and for a moment, she genuinely wondered if she had heard him
wrong.
Everything had been fine, so why would Alexander suddenly go after Landon?
But she knew her son well.
If he had already said this much, there was no point in asking further. She wasn’t going to get anything else out of him.
“Fine,” she said finally, waving a hand in frustration. “I won’t interfere.”
She paused, then added firmly, “But whatever is going on between you two, don’t let it affect my grandson.”
She had already guessed the truth. This was Elena’s doing, and Alexander was covering for her.
She had never approved of Elena working in the first place.
Now things had escalated into something this big.
Her dissatisfaction only deepened.

both Elena and Alexander are stupid, they already knew and agreed to be open, honest and trust each other, but instead they repeated the same mistakes which made them suspicious of each other....
