Sham Marriage Quit, Real Heiress Strikes Back
Chapter 292 Cracks Beneath
Camille stood there for a long moment after they left.
Her face darkened as she bit down hard on her lower lip, her direction Elena had gone.

People nearby were whispering and pointing, though it was unclear what exactly they were saying.
Unable to stand it any longer, she turned and stormed out of the hospital.
The moment she got into her car, she slammed her fists against the steering wheel again and again, completely losing control.
“Bitch! Bitch!” she shouted.
Her phone rang.
Evan.
She picked up immediately, her voice sharp with anger. “Why are you calling me again? Didn’t I tell you to get lost? What are you, obsessed with me? Why don’t you just go die!”
Evan didn’t get angry.
Instead, his tone carried a hint of careful appeasement. “Camille, are you at the hospital? Do you want me to come keep you company?”
Camille’s eyes filled with contempt.
“Who do you think you are? You think you get to come see me?” she snapped. “And I’m not even at the hospital. I’m at work.”
Evan hesitated slightly. “Didn’t you say before that you might be…”
“Shut up!” Camille’s voice shot up, nearly out of control. “If you bring that up again, I swear I’ll kill you. I already saw a doctor. I’m not pregnant.”
She tightened her grip, her knuckles turning white.
“And even if I were, there’s no way I’d be with you. Who do you think you are? You’re not even worth standing next to me. The only person I care about is Nathan.”
She had always despised Evan.
Even as a kid, he used to trail behind her like a ghost. His father Daniel wasn’t respected, and neither was he. In the Hawthorne family, he was practically invisible.
And yet he had the nerve to think he could be close to her.
Thinking about what had happened between them that night, Camille felt sick.
But in the end, she blamed it all on Elena.

If it weren’t for her, she and Nathan would never have broken up, and she never would have drunk herself into that state…
On the other end, Evan’s voice remained calm, though there was something darker beneath it.
“You’re really not pregnant?” he asked.
“Even if I were, I’d get rid of it,” Camille said without hesitation. “There’s no way I’d keep a child like that.” Those words finally cut through.
No mother would talk about her own child that way. Evan believed her.
“Alright, don’t be upset,” he said. “If you’re not pregnant, then you’re not pregnant…”
He continued, still trying to coax her, “How about I pick you up from work tomorrow? Nathan’s leg is already ruined. No matter how much your family helps him, he won’t make much of a difference at Hawthorne Group. Why hold on to that?”
“If you’re willing to be with me, I can give you anything-
“Get lost!” Camille snapped without hesitation and hung up.
After her emotions settled a little, she opened her bag and took out an ultrasound report.
Her fingers tightened, crumpling the thin sheet of paper. She stared at it for a long time before stuffing it back inside.
Then she started the car and drove home.
That evening, Camille went into the kitchen and cooked dinner herself.
“You don’t need to do that,” Catherine said, clearly displeased. “That’s what the staff is for.”
“You’ve never even cooked for your father and me.”
Camille wrapped her arms around Catherine and acted spoiled.
“I will next time,” she said. “Nathan’s been working really hard lately. I just want to do something nice for
him.”
More importantly…
She could feel it. Something about Nathan had changed.
Even though he still did everything she said in front of Catherine and Richard, she could tell.
The way he treated her felt more like he had no other choice.
“I seriously don’t understand why you care so much about him,” Catherine said with irritation. “He’s just-

Nathan had just gotten home. He stepped inside, and Catherine’s words reached his ears.
Camille noticed his expression darken slightly and quickly changed the subject.
“You’re back,” Camille said. “I made your favorite dishes. Go wash your hands, we’re about to eat.
The more she tried to please him, the more displeased Catherine became.
She crossed her arms and looked at Nathan coldly.
“There’s nothing important going on at Hawthorne Group anyway,” Catherine said. “If you have nothing to do, come home earlier and spend time with Camille. You’re not in any position to inherit anything, so why waste your time working?”
“Mom!” Camille said loudly.
Then she turned to Nathan. “Go wash up first.”
Nathan nodded and walked away. As he did, Catherine’s voice carried over faintly.
“You’re such a naive girl,” Catherine said. “After everything he’s done to you, you’re still completely devoted to him.”
She continued, “Men like him are the easiest to read. The moment he gets back on his feet, you’ll be the first person he abandons.”
Camille didn’t say anything.
“I’m telling you,” Catherine added, “if I were you, I’d cut off any chance of him rising again. Our family has money. Whether he succeeds or not doesn’t matter. What matters is that you’re happy.”
Camille stood there, her thoughts completely in turmoil.
