Sham Marriage Quit, Real Heiress Strikes Back
Chapter 294 Truth and Facade
“It’s an ultrasound report,” Camille said quickly. “Honey, this time it’s real. I’m pregnant with your child. I only said those things earlier because I didn’t want you to ignore me…
Nathan tossed the paper aside.
“Are you really going to use the same trick to lie to me again?” he said coldly.
Camille panicked.
She grabbed his hand tightly.
“I’m not lying this time. I really am pregnant. If you don’t believe me, we can go to the hospital together tomorrow!”
The next day, Elena went with Hannah to visit Nicole and Gordon.
“He was doing pretty well yesterday,” Nicole said. “You really don’t have to keep coming all this way. I feel bad making you guys do this.”
Her condition had improved significantly.

She had cut off all ties with her family. Now, all she wanted was to stay by her son’s side and live a peaceful life.
Seeing that Nicole was in a much better state, Elena didn’t press further.
She took an envelope out of her bag and handed it over.
“What’s this?” Nicole asked, confused.
The envelope felt heavy.
When she opened it, she saw a stack of cash inside. A lot of it.
“This is from Hannah and me,” Elena said before Nicole could refuse. “Don’t say no. You’re not working right now, and raising Gordon on your own isn’t cheap.”
“I really can’t take this,” Nicole said, trying to push it back. “You already paid me for the interview. I can’t take more.”
“We just feel a connection with him,” Elena said. “Think of it as something for Gordon.”
“Yeah,” Hannah added. “It’s from both of us. Please don’t refuse.”
In reality, most of the money came from Elena. Hannah had only added a small amount.
Thank you.” Nicole said, her eyes turning red.
Sometimes, even strangers could show more kindness than family ever did.
“No need to be so formal, Elena said. “Take care of him. We’re heading out. If you need anything, call me.

Finished
After a few more words, Elena and Hannah took the elevator down. What she didn’t expect was to run into Victoria and Nathan there.
Camille and Catherine were with them. The atmosphere was… off.
Catherine was smiling brightly. Camille had a strange, unreadable smile on her face.
Meanwhile, Nathan and Victoria both looked stiff.
Elena had no intention of speaking to them. She and Hannah turned to leave through another exit.
But Catherine had already spotted her.
“Elena,” Catherine called out and walked over quickly.
“Do you need something?” Elena asked coldly, her tone distant, as if speaking to a complete stranger.
Catherine looked at her with dissatisfaction. It had been a long time since she had seen Elena.
She looked… good.
She was wearing a newly released designer coat, her face fuller than before, her complexion glowing.
Even the bag in her hand was a recent luxury release. Expensive.
Catherine felt a flicker of discomfort. The daughter she had once dismissed had somehow ended up marrying Alexander and even carrying a Kingsley heir.
Even though she still didn’t like Elena, her current status was undeniable. If they could mend things, it wouldn’t be a bad outcome for the family.
“It’s been so long, and you don’t even greet your own mother?” Catherine said with a hint of irritation.
“Is that how your adoptive parents raised you?”
Elena let out a faint, mocking smile.
“I remember it was you who refused to acknowledge me as your daughter,” she said. “Or am I remembering that wrong?”
Catherine choked on her words for a moment.
She forced a stiff smile.
“That was so long ago. How could I remember everything? Yes, I didn’t treat you well back then, but you grew up in someone else’s home. How could I accept you right away?” she said. “If you had been as sensible as Camille, would things between us have turned out like this?”
Every word shifted the blame onto Elena. If she had been more agreeable, more sweet–talking, things would
have been different.
“So what is this?” Elena said coolly. “Are you trying to take me back now?”

She cut straight through Catherine’s intentions.
“Back then, I had no value to you, so you threw me aside without hesitation. Now that I’m useful, you want to get close again. Do I look that naive?”
“I have no interest in the Hart family,” Elena continued. “So you don’t need to waste your
time.”
The words landed hard, hitting Catherine right where it hurt.
She let out a cold laugh, no longer bothering to hide her irritation.
“I shouldn’t be the one saying this, but I’ve lived longer than you,” Catherine said. “Right now Alexander likes you, but once time passes and another woman shows up, what will you do? You don’t even have a family to fall back on. When he throws you out, you won’t even have a place to cry.”
“That won’t be your concern,” Elena said calmly. “If anything, having a mother like you would be the real tragedy.”
With that, she took Hannah’s hand and walked away.
