“Haven’t I already told you? It’s okay during the second trimester,” she murmured, giving Alexander’s arm a little pinch.
Alexander shot her a look. “I was worried you were pulling my leg.”
“Why would I lie to you?” She gave him a sidelong glance.
The night before, she’d made the first move just once, but he’d turned her down. She’d already told him that the doctor said it was okay to have sex during the second trimester, but he just wouldn’t buy it.
She never thought he’d actually ask the doctor during the check–up.
“Do you believe it now?” she asked.
“Yeah, I do.”
“Doesn’t matter. I’m not making the first move again.”
Getting rejected once was embarrassing enough. She wasn’t going to put herself in that position again.
Alexander noticed her blushing and smiled. He took her hand and used the other to straighten her loose scarf.
When they reached the parking lot, he opened the car door and helped her into the passenger seat.
Once he got in the car, the first thing he did was grab a small pillow and put it behind her back to make her more comfortable. Elena did feel a lot better.
By that time, Alexander’s condition had also stabilized. The couple was getting along great.
Walter and Evelyn had even let them move back to their own place to help them grow closer.
He started the car.
Elena looked out of the window and gradually realized they weren’t heading home.
“Where are we going?”
“To meet someone.”
Alexander kept his hands on the steering wheel and said it nonchalantly.
Elena was used to him making decisions first and telling her later. He always took care of things well, so she didn’t bother asking. She just closed her eyes and took a rest.
She didn’t know how much time had passed.
The car stopped.
“We’re here.”

Chapter 297 The Prenatal Question
She opened her eyes.
Alexander had already unbuckled her seatbelt.
He fixed her scarf again.
He got out first, walked around to the passenger side, opened the door, and helped her out.
In front of them was an exclusive private–kitchen restaurant.
There weren’t many people dining there at that hour. Alexander took her hand and walked in. A waiter led them to a private room on the second floor.
Alexander opened the door.
She walked in.
There were three people sitting in the room.
She knew two of them.
Riona and Zoe.
Next to them sat an old man with gray hair. He looked stern, and his droopy–lidded eyes stared right at her.
Alaric sized up the young girl at the door.
She was wearing a light–blue knitted top, a white coat, and a white scarf. The soft colors made her skin look even more radiant. Her eyes were kind, and there was a faint smile on her lips.
“Take a seat,” Alaric said first.
Elena had already guessed who this was. She gave a slight nod and sat down across from them with Alexander.
“I’m Malcolm’s father,” Alaric said, getting right to the point.
Elena said, “I know.”
He resembled Malcolm a bit. She’d recognized him immediately.
“The Kingsley family wants us to accept you. You’re Malcolm’s daughter in name. Technically, we should bring you into the Sterling family,” Alaric went on. “What do you think about the recognition ceremony?”
His tone wasn’t exactly friendly.
It didn’t feel like a real family gathering. It felt more like he was doing the Kingsley family a favor, just going through the motions and asking for her opinion.
Alexander had arranged this for her.
She wasn’t going to make him look bad. “It’s up to you. I don’t have strong feelings about it. But Alexander thinks it’s a good thing that can strengthen the bond between the families, so it should be a bit of a big deal.

Chapter 997 The Prenatal Question
She kept a sweet smile and a gentle voice and smoothly passed the question back to Alexander.
Alexander glanced at his wife.
Then he nodded without showing any change in expression. “Yeah, I prefer things to be lively.”
Zoe and Riona almost rolled their eyes all the way back.
A foster daughter.
She had nothing going for her except the support of the Kingsley family.
And she still had so many demands.
Zoe couldn’t hold her tongue. “There’s no need to go overboard. It’s not that significant. I think a simple family dinner would be enough. Besides… she’s not even a real daughter. Is all this really necessary?”
Having Elena back meant the family fortune would be divided even more.
That meant everyone else would get a smaller share than before. Who would be happy about that?
“Ms. Zoe Sterling, are you running the Sterling family now?” Alexander asked coolly..
That silenced Zoe. She looked annoyed but didn’t dare to argue back.
“Enough. I’ll find someone to handle it,” Alaric decided.
“How about a month from now? Before Thanksgiving.”
“Whatever you say.” Alexander nodded. He didn’t plan to stay long. He took Elena’s hand and stood up. “Then we’ll leave.”
He led Elena out without even having a single bite.
It was obvious he just wanted to get her a status in the Sterling family. As for any real family affection–none of that mattered. They didn’t care about it anyway.
Back in the car, Elena finally asked what had been on her mind. “Don’t they know about my parents‘ inheritance?”
The Sterling family had been extremely cold.
A hundred billion in assets was no small sum. If they knew she had that much money, there was no way they would have acted like that just now.
