Chapter 40 Clean Break
She was not someone people could push around. No matter how much history she had with the magazine she would never accept them handing her achievements to Camille again and again.
If this network did not want her, she would find another.
After deciding to leave Swiftline, she had already sent her résumé to several TV stations and media companies.
Elena shut down her computer. The phone on the desk kept vibrating. Nathan and Richard were both calling, but she ignored every single call.
It rang for nearly half an hour. Finally, it buzzed again, this time from an unfamiliar number.
“Hello, may I speak to Ms. Sterling?”
After a brief hesitation, Elena answered. A sweet female voice came through the speaker.
“Who’s calling?”
“This is Velmora Media. We received your résumé today, and we’d like to schedule an interview. When would you be available?”
Elena was surprised.
Velmora Media had only been around for a few years, but it was growing fast. Traditional TV was fading, and younger audiences preferred digital platforms. Velmora Media had quickly become a rising star in the industry. She had applied just to see what might happen.
“Would tomorrow afternoon work?”
She checked her schedule before answering.
“That works. We’ll see you tomorrow.”
After hanging up, Elena took a shower, had dinner, and began preparing for the interview.
Meanwhile, the Hart family was in chaos.
Camille sat on the couch, tears streaming down her face, Catherine wrapped her arms around her and looked at Richard. “Elena still isn’t answering?”
Richard’s expression was grim. “No.”
He had never wanted to get involved in the tension between Camille and Elena. Elena seemed to have a decent relationship with the Kingsley family, and he did not want unnecessary conflict. But this time. things had gone too far, Camille was being mocked online, and the Hart family’s reputation was taking a hit along with her.
“We never should’ve brought her back. She should’ve stayed where she was and lived her own life. Now look at this, Camille has to suffer like this.”
Catherine’s heart ached for Camille, so much that she forgot Elena was her biological daughter.
Camille’s eyes were red and swollen. Hearing that, she finally felt a little comfort.
Nathan’s gaze settled on her. “Why did you take Elena’s credit?”
“I’m not mad. I hate seeing you hurt.”
Camille broke into a tearful smile. The next morning, Elena saw Swiftline’s official statement online.
Andy had been fired.
The statement claimed that forcing Elena to hand over the interview was entirely Andy’s personal decision.
Camille was completely cleared.
Elena let out a cold laugh. Nathan, you really are hopelessly devoted to Camille.
That afternoon, Elena changed into a white blouse and a fitted dark skirt before heading to Velmora Media.
Standing outside the building, she looked up at the sleek glass tower. In just three years, Velmora Media had become one of the most talked about names in the industry.
She walked into the lobby, where a line of candidates was already waiting at the front desk.
After showing her interview invitation email, Elena followed the others into the elevator.
There were more than ten candidates. She glanced around. All unfamiliar faces. No one she recognized, and no one seemed to recognize her.
Her interview slot was sixth.
