Chapter 47 Fire Alarm
“There’s a fire.”
Nathan barely had time to catch his breath before he scrambled to pull his clothes back on. Camille was furious about the interruption, but even she knew that when an alarm was screaming through the building, survival came first.
She hurried into her clothes as well.
Once they were finally dressed, they stepped out to see what was going on.
The alarm was still blaring. The hallway was packed with guests in pajamas and hotel robes, everyone talking over each other, irritation bouncing off the walls.
‘What’s going on? There’s no fire, so what is this about?”
1 staff rushed over, apologizing repeatedly. “We’re so sorry. It looks like someone may have triggered larm by accident.”
you even know how to run a hotel? If you don’t, maybe shut it down!”
Seriously, way to kill the mood.”
Grumbling under their breath, the other guests headed back into their rooms.
Nathan let out a long breath. Camille’s mood lifted instantly. She slipped her arm through his. “Honey, let’s go back inside.”
‘Yeah.”
Nathan squeezed her waist and pulled her close as they turned toward the room.
The moment he pivoted around, his face drained of color.
Camille’s eyes widened. Am I hallucinating? What is Elena doing here?
Elena had imagined countless times what it would look like to catch Nathan and Camille together. Now that she was actually seeing it with her own eyes, she felt nothing at all.
Maybe she had always known he was unfaithful. Maybe she had already gotten used to it.
Still, she had to look devastated.
Under their stunned stares, Elena walked toward them slowly.
“Babe-”
The word slipped out of Nathan’s mouth before he could stop it.
Elena raised her hand and slapped him across the face. Tears welled in her eyes, half real and half deliberate. “Nathan, what exactly are you going to explain? Are you going to tell me Camille was upset and you were just comforting her, and somehow comforting her brought you all the way to a hotel?” “What gives you the right to hit him?” Camille tried to step forward, but Nathan pulled her behind him. “It’s not what you think, babe. I had too much to drink. Nothing happened between us. Look, we’re both fully dressed.”
Right now, their neatly buttoned clothes seemed like the strongest evidence he had.
Elena let out a short laugh. No matter the man, when he lies, the ugliness shows the same way every time.
“This is my fault.”
Divorce?
Nathan turned to Camille with cold resolve. “I know you like me. Getting close to Ethan was just a way to get close to me. This time you even slipped something into my drink, hoping something would happen between us. Camille, Elena is the only woman in my heart. Stop wasting your time on me and have some self respect.”
Camille’s lips trembled. Tears streamed down her face.
Even Elena almost felt sorry for her.
But then she remembered how she had been manipulated by both of them. Compared to that, what was this?
Camille stared at Nathan, lips shaking, and finally forced out the words, “I’m sorry, Elena, Nathan. I won’t bother you again.”
She had never felt so humiliated.
But the warning in Nathan’s eyes left her no choice except to swallow her pride.
“You done? Or do you want me to walk you out?” he said.
His face was completely devoid of warmth, as if he had never had anything to do with her. Camille burst into tears and ran down the hall.
One Camille was dealt with. Now there was still Nathan.
Elena looked at the man in front of her. His body was still warm. The hand gripping her wrist felt hot against her skin.
‘Babe, you see that? I’m loyal to you. Don’t you believe me now?”
Nathan’s gaze lingered greedily over Elena’s face. His hand moved upward, about to touch her cheek.
