Her body pressed close against him, her cheek nearly resting on his shoulder. Who else could it be but Camille?
Three million, just like that, all to keep her happy.
"Three million once, three million twice, three million—"
"Five million."
A calm male voice came from behind Elena.
Before she could react, the spotlight shifted instantly.
It landed on Alexander. Her heart jumped into her throat.
Luckily, she was sitting with her back to the light. Even with the spotlight, no one could see her face.
The room stirred.
Alexander rarely attended events like this. Not only had he shown up tonight, he was bidding on the highlight piece, and he had brought a woman with him.
Elena did not dare move.
One wrong angle and Nathan might recognize her.
"Why so tense?"
Under the spotlight, Alexander showed no reaction at all. He simply reached for her wrist and eased her into his arms, holding her close as if the entire room had disappeared.
The light spilled over her bare back but never reached her face, leaving her identity hidden, which only made the moment more intriguing to everyone watching. Across the room, Nathan couldn't take his eyes off the woman in Alexander's embrace. There was something about the outline of her, the way she carried herself, that tugged at him in a way he didn't like.
The resemblance to Elena was unsettling, and an uninvited irritation settled in his chest, tightening his expression without him even realizing it. Beside him, Camille noticed none of it and tugged at his sleeve. "Are you going to bid again? I said I want that."
"Babe..."
"Pick something else next time."
Nathan pulled his arm away, his tone turning cold.
Five million was not something he could casually throw around, not against Alexander. If his grandfather found out, he would not hear the end of it.
Camille's smile froze.
"So you just don't want to buy it for me, right? Funny, when you got Everlove Heart for Elena, you didn't even hesitate. What, am I not that important to you anymore?"
Her voice trembled as if she might cry.
Nathan's brows tightened.
If it were Elena, she would have refused something that expensive, probably wrapping her arms around him and saying she only cared about him.
For the first time, he found himself missing how easy she had been.
Camille caught the shift in his expression, and something in her chest tightened.
"I'm sorry. I just... wanted to feel like you still care about me."
She lowered her head, looking hurt. Nathan studied her profile, his expression gradually softening.
"I'll make it up to you next time."
Nathan caught the edge in his tone and quickly looked away.
"My mistake."
He paused, then added, "Your fiancée?"
Elena cursed him internally. He has never cared this much about anyone's personal life before.
She stayed perfectly still in Alexander's arms. His hand rested at her waist, the warmth suddenly impossible to ignore.
Now she understood why people got drawn into forbidden situations. There was something dangerously thrilling about it.
Alexander did not answer. His gaze turned cold as it landed on Nathan.
Nathan got the message. "Sorry."
He stepped back.
Standing outside the private section, he let out a quiet scoff, jealousy flickering in his eyes.
Who is he trying to impress?
Elena left with Alexander soon after. Thankfully, they did not run into Nathan or Camille again.
Back in the car, she pushed the box toward him. "It's too much."
Their relationship had started because of that will.
Even after everything that had happened between them, she did not believe someone like Alexander would fall for a woman who had already been married.
