Sham Marriage Quit Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 76

Elena lifted her chin slightly as she gave the instructions.

"Whatever you want," Nathan said smoothly. "If it helps you calm down, I'll do it."

He knew her well. She had always softened quickly.

Nathan left in a good mood.

The next morning, as Elena arrived at Velmora Media, the receptionist called out to her. "This was delivered for you. Mr. Hawthorne dropped it off."

The receptionist held a brown paper bag stamped with the Golden Deli logo.

"Thank you," Elena said, accepting it.

The receptionist sighed dreamily. "You're so lucky. He showed up this early just to bring you breakfast, and it's still warm. I once asked my husband to get Golden Deli for me, and he said the line wrapped around the block. Apparently that's too much trouble."

She shook her head. "You really can't compare men. It just makes you disappointed."

Elena gave a faint smile. Only she knew the bitterness behind it.

Luna walked in just in time to overhear. She let out a pointed laugh. "Right? Some people have great husbands and still can't appreciate them. Running around with other men, and not even trying to be discreet about it. It's embarrassing."

The air grew tense. The receptionist awkwardly fell silent.

Luna shot Elena a smug look and turned toward the office.

"Hold on," Elena said.

Luna stopped. "What?"

"What exactly did you mean just now?"

Elena walked toward her.

"Nothing," Luna replied sweetly. "I was just thinking about a story I covered yesterday. Don't tell me you thought I was talking about you?"

She widened her eyes in fake innocence. "Relax. We work in the same office. Even if you did something embarrassing, I wouldn't blast it out loud."

Elena had no interest in playing dumb. She was about to step into a life of serious money and status with Alexander, so why would she waste energy letting someone like Luna get under her skin?

While Luna kept rambling, Elena pulled out the coffee that had come with the breakfast and splashed it across Luna's face.

Luna gasped.

Her voice was blazing. Sophia jumped. "Are you okay? Do you want me to come with you?"

She had long disliked the way Lydia and Luna targeted Elena.

"It's fine," Elena said lightly. "I can handle it."

She stepped inside. Two minutes later, the HR rushed over.

She glanced at Luna, who was red eyed and dabbing at tears, then at Elena, who looked perfectly composed. "What happened?"

Lydia crossed her arms coldly. "Lisa, you know I'm particular about my team. I don't tolerate favoritism. Elena thinks she can bully an intern just because she's close to Ryan."

She shot Elena a look of open disdain. "No matter how capable she is, that attitude is unacceptable. I will personally speak to Ryan and recommend termination."

Lisa felt a headache forming. Offending Ryan was not an option, and there were rumors Lydia had ties to Alexander, which made this even trickier.

"Lydia, give me a moment," Lisa said diplomatically.

She turned to Luna first.

Luna sniffed dramatically. "I was just talking about the story I covered yesterday, and she threw coffee in my face. I know I'm not as talented as she is, but this is too much. And before this, she even spread rumors about Lydia and Mr. Kingsley..."
