She knew exactly which divorced man he and her grandfather were talking about.

Jerome looked at her. "Grandpa just can't bear to let you go. He's incredibly protective of you. But honestly, his stance is softening."

Consider this Grandpa's way of testing how genuine his feelings really are. If he loses his temper or gets impatient, then Grandpa has every right to reject him. Does he really think he can just waltz in and take our family's priceless treasure without breaking a sweat?"

He sighed. "I don't know her that well. We just go way back, and I owe her. She ran into some trouble recently and asked me for a favor, that's all."

But Lizetta's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Owe her? Sounds to me like you owe her a romantic debt. You'd better pay up soon."
