Lizetta had zero interest in listening to Conrad's excuses.
She cut him off mid-sentence. "Even if she tricked you, taking the shares my mother left behind and using them to back the Porter family—wasn't that your own doing? Mr. West, it's not like we didn't give you a choice today! Do I need to remind you?"
There was a reason Nelson Madden hadn't shown up immediately and had Jerome escort Mrs. Bernice Madden out first.
Firstly, Nelson wanted to see exactly who had fully morphed into a lapdog for the Porter family.
Secondly, he wanted to give all the shareholders a chance to pick their sides and make a new choice.
After all, given the situation at the time, they all had a chance to switch allegiances and still come out on top.
Yet Conrad hadn't even hesitated before firmly standing with the Porter family.
Lizetta stared him down. "Besides, are you really trying to claim you had no idea what kind of person was sharing your bed?"
A person could maintain a facade for a decade or two.
But it was impossible to keep it up every single second of the day. Eartha was Conrad's wife; they had lived together for nearly twenty years.
Lizetta refused to believe Conrad hadn't noticed whether Eartha was an angel or a monster. He had just been pretending to be blind.
"Liz, it's not like that. Back then, I didn't know the truth about your identity. Eartha was so good to the girl she thought was you, and she even donated a kidney to your mother. I felt incredibly grateful and guilty toward her. Then she deliberately seduced me. I'm just a normal man, Liz. It's human nature that I developed feelings and got manipulated by her... Ah!"
Just as Lizetta was losing the last shred of her patience, another car pulled up outside the courtyard gates without anyone noticing.
The back door swung open, and a familiar, tall figure stepped out.
The man strode aggressively toward them, holding two takeout containers in his hands.
He was moving so fast, his eyes locked entirely on Lizetta, that he acted as if he hadn't even seen Conrad blocking the entrance.
Conrad's face froze. The curses abruptly stopped as if someone had sliced his vocal cords.
"You... you did that on purpose! Have you lost your mind?"
Conrad's lips trembled as he tried to sound intimidating despite his obvious panic.
Remington raised an eyebrow and scoffed coldly. "Mr. West, you were the one standing in the wrong place, blocking the door. You made me spill the special takeout I brought all the way here for my girlfriend. I haven't even asked you to pay for the damages yet, and you have the nerve to blame me?"
Conrad was so furious he almost laughed.
There was plenty of space at the entrance. Remington had charged straight at him and rammed into his body. It was unequivocally intentional.
And whatever this stew was, not only was it searingly hot, but the stench was enough to make his eyes water.

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
