When Lizetta looked up, the teasing smile in Remington's eyes instantly vanished.
Her bright, clear eyes were genuinely clouded with moisture. It looked as though a single flutter of her eyelashes would send a teardrop spilling down her cheek.
Remington's breath hitched. He realized he had pushed the joke too far.
His Adam's apple bobbed. Stepping forward, he wrapped an arm around her slender waist and effortlessly swept her down the hall, pushing her right to the door of her bedroom.
He pulled her inside, kicked the door shut with his heel, and pinned her against the solid wood in one fluid motion.
"Why are you crying? Is my Liz that desperate to marry me?"
He bent his head, his large, warm hand cupping her delicate face. His thumb gently brushed against the soft, flushed skin at the corner of her eyes. His voice was incredibly tender.
Lizetta blinked, her long, curled lashes heavy with unshed tears. She looked like a baby bird with soaked wings, pitiful and heartbreakingly beautiful.
Remington's heart melted completely. He leaned in, intending to kiss her soft, rosy lips.
But just as his breath ghosted over hers, Lizetta spoke in a quiet, fragile voice.
"You should go. I've thought about it, and we should just break up."
At the same time, her small hands pushed against his shoulders, trying to shove him away.
Her push was so weak he could have easily ignored it, but to Remington, it felt as though she had shattered his collarbones.
An overwhelming, suffocating wave of despair crashed over him, the sharp pain shooting straight to his heart.
His body went rigid, his breathing turning ragged.
"Say that again!"
Lizetta could feel the sudden, freezing aura radiating from him. Her fingers instinctively curled into fists, her heart racing with anxiety.
Whether it was her cry of pain that finally snapped him out of it, or the fact that she had accidentally yanked on the spot where the apple had hit him, Remington suddenly froze. He slowly pulled back and looked down at her.
Lizetta glared at him. The furious words on the tip of her tongue died the moment she saw the dark, red-rimmed intensity of his eyes.
She stared at him, stunned, her eyelashes fluttering slowly. "Um, actually, I..."
Overwhelmed with guilt, she parted her lips to explain.
But Remington's large hand gripped her chin as he leaned down and captured her mouth.
A dark shadow fell over her vision as his scorching breath consumed her.
Before she could react, his tongue pushed past her teeth with predatory dominance, sweeping inside and demanding complete surrender. The kiss was fierce, desperate, and punishing.
Lizetta instinctively closed her eyes. She trembled slightly, feeling utterly enveloped by his scent—a familiar, intoxicating aura that made her head spin.

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
