Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1195

Lizetta's soul nearly left her body. Driven by pure panic, she threw her arms around Remington's neck and buried her face into his chest, her voice trembling.

“Someone's coming! What do we do?! This is all your fault, I told you we should have left immediately!”

Remington merely tightened his grip around her waist, his roaming hands not pausing for even a second.

Pulling his lips away with obvious reluctance, he casually glanced out the window.

It was just a security guard.

The man had stepped out of the estate gates and taken a few steps in their direction, patting his pockets with his head down—likely searching for a cigarette.

Remington looked away after a mere second, his dark eyes brimming with amusement as he stared at the woman cowering in his arms like she'd committed a federal crime.

The more she panicked, the more he wanted to tease her.

He pressed his lips against her ear, chuckling softly. “You smell amazing. Did you take a fresh shower just for me?”

Lizetta was practically dying of anxiety. She hadn't gotten a good look at who had walked out.

What if it was her grandfather coming out to drag her back inside?

If that happened, she would die of sheer humiliation.

She had no idea what to do, yet Remington didn't possess a single ounce of urgency. Instead, his large hand boldly slid up her back.

He was acting completely reckless, as if he fully intended to devour her right here in the car.

Utterly frantic, she lifted her head from his chest and bit down hard on his shoulder.

Seeing her equal parts furious and embarrassed, he finally laughed and stroked her hair.

“Relax, it's just a guard stepping out for a smoke. He's already heading back.”

She let out a massive sigh of relief. The mortifying mental image of her grandfather dragging her out of the car finally faded from her mind.

“Do I look like the kind of man who lets you back out at the last second?”

She looked up at him. Even in the dim light, she could see the dangerous, undeniable authority in his half-smile.

She shrank back instinctively, the crunch of footsteps outside growing louder.

In a sheer panic, she grabbed a fistful of his dress shirt, her eyes welling up with frantic, misty tears.

Finding her reaction completely irresistible, his lips curled upward.

“You have quite a heavy burden as the Madden heiress, don't you?”

The man approaching was Captain Briggs, the very same security head who had chatted with Ray earlier that day.

He had noticed a vehicle parked silently in the shadowy perimeter, suspecting there was someone inside.

Walking up to the side of the car, he leaned in and indeed saw a silhouette. Just as he debated whether to knock, the rear window slowly rolled down.
