Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1200

“I was just putting your shoes on, Liz.”

She was entirely speechless.

The teasing glint in his eye made it seem as though she was the one with a filthy mind, secretly hoping he would pounce.

Hot embarrassment flooded her cheeks.

Seeing her bristle like a startled kitten, his smile only deepened.

He reached up and affectionately ruffled her hair. “I'll use the other bathroom to wash up. Call me if you need anything.”

She nodded eagerly, and he finally turned and walked out.

She got ready as quickly as humanly possible. When she emerged, he was already waiting for her.

He was dressed in a sharp, impeccably tailored three-piece suit—pitch black from the inside out.

Even his tie was dark gray with subtle texture. While he often wore dark colors, dressing head-to-toe in funeral attire was a stark departure from his usual style.

She looked down at her own black outfit and finally understood.

“Are you coming to the cemetery too?”

He stepped forward and smoothly wrapped an arm around her waist.

“Of course. Don't you want to introduce me to your mother?”

He guided her out of the suite and toward the elevator as she frowned in conflict.

“Maybe you shouldn't go today. I…”

She felt incredibly guilty for not clearing this with her grandfather first. Today was meant for the family to pay their respects quietly.

Nelson hadn't fully accepted Remington yet, and she was worried that bringing him along unannounced would spark a massive argument.

The last thing she wanted was for them to clash again.

But before she could finish, he cut her off. “Do you really view me as a dirty secret?”

She was speechless again.

As the elevator doors opened, he ushered her inside. Looking at his reflection in the mirrored walls, she murmured softly.

“No, but…”

He interrupted her again.

“No buts.” He pulled her securely into his embrace as she looked up at him.

There were also five or six frantic missed calls from Martin.

Strangely enough, there wasn't a single call from Nelson or Jerome. She turned to stare at him in disbelief.

He simply cast her an adoring glance.

“It's about an hour's drive to the cemetery. Didn't you say you're exhausted? Sleep a little longer, I'll wake you when we arrive. Or do you want to eat first?”

He gestured toward the backseat via the rearview mirror.

“I had them pack a light breakfast and coffee in the back. Grab it if you're hungry.”

Being severely sleep-deprived completely killed her appetite.

Seeing how entirely unbothered he was, her anxiety finally melted away. She closed her eyes and curled up in the seat.

“Then I'm going back to sleep…”

The moment the words left her mouth, he reached over and reclined her seat just as they hit a red light.

He leaned across the console to drape a soft blanket gently over her shoulders.

With her eyes closed, basking in his tender, meticulous care, a beautiful, contented smile graced her lips.
