Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1201

Lizetta drifted off quickly, falling into a deep slumber almost the second Remington pulled away.

Watching her peaceful, exhausted face, Remington felt a pang of guilt, knowing she’d have to climb a long flight of stairs once they reached the cemetery.

He drove with smooth precision, stealing affectionate glances at her every so often.

When Lizetta finally woke up over an hour later, it was the faint click of her seatbelt unbuckling that roused her.

Her eyes flew open, and she instinctively glanced around, her expression bewildered and slightly anxious.

She couldn't immediately place where she was until her gaze met Remington's warm, gentle eyes as he leaned over her.

"Did I wake you? Do you want to sleep a little longer?" the man asked with a soft smile.

Lizetta blinked, still groggy with sleep.

"Are we there?" Her body felt delightfully heavy, and she didn't want to move an inch.

As she spoke, she unconsciously tilted her head toward him, resting her cheek against his shoulder like an affectionate kitten.

Remington's smile deepened. He reached up to gently smooth her slightly tousled hair before answering.

"We're here, but your grandfather and the others haven't arrived yet. You can sleep a bit more if you want."

Hearing that her grandfather hadn't arrived yet, Lizetta let out a sigh of relief, though any remaining desire to sleep vanished.

After resting the whole way, she felt much more energized.

She opened her eyes wide and looked out the window.

"How are they not here yet?"

They had left the hotel much later than originally planned.

Yet, as the car idled near the cemetery entrance—on a day with no special memorial significance, leaving the area mostly devoid of traffic—it was completely quiet.

She truly couldn't spot a single vehicle belonging to the Madden family.

"Perhaps... Nelson and Bernice are just taking their time, and the driver is being extra cautious."

Remington raised an eyebrow.

The truth was, right after sneaking Lizetta out of the hotel that morning, he had sent Jerome a WhatsApp message claiming they were just leaving.

Lizetta immediately saw through his bluff. She sat up straight and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Liar! What really happened?"

There was no way the Madden family driver was so agonizingly slow that she had arrived before them, just as Remington casually claimed.

Cornered, Remington finally confessed.

"I called Nelson this morning and told him I'd be bringing you here myself."

Lizetta was genuinely stunned. She gestured for Remington to adjust her reclined seat so she could sit up properly.

"You told my grandfather? You... you just walked right into the lion's den and asked for forgiveness instead of permission?!"

Seeing her mild panic, Remington chuckled and pressed a quick kiss to her lips.

"Asking for forgiveness instead of permission is still better than deliberately hiding it and kidnapping you, don't you think?"

Lizetta thought about it for a second. He had a point.

She blinked. "So, my grandfather agreed to let you bring me? And he's letting you see my mother with us?"

Before Remington could answer, a loud, strange grumble echoed through the enclosed space of the car.

When she woke up that morning, she had been wrapped in his arms, both of them completely bare, so she had assumed he had just woken up too.

But he had already called her grandfather, and now she was eating his handmade breakfast, meaning he had clearly gotten up early to cook for her.

"I slept a little. Go ahead and eat."

Remington gazed at her warmly but didn't elaborate.

He had actually woken up just after five in the morning, careful not to disturb her.

He had gone down to the kitchen of The Belmont Grand's restaurant to personally prepare the scallion pasta. His original plan was to bring it up, wake her for breakfast, and then drop her back off at the Madden estate.

But when he returned to the room and saw her sleeping so soundly and sweetly, he couldn't bear to wake her. After all, he hadn't been able to control himself last night and had kept her up incredibly late.

Because of that, he had called Nelson Madden instead.

Truthfully, he had never intended to hide the fact that he was spiriting away the old man's precious granddaughter.

Nelson had chewed him out over the phone, but ultimately didn't reject his request to accompany Lizetta.

"It's delicious. Just as amazing as I remember."

Although Remington hadn't said a word about his efforts, a sweet, radiant warmth spread through Lizetta's chest.

She took a massive bite of the pasta, her eyes curving into happy crescents as she looked at him with utter satisfaction.

The pasta had soaked in the broth a bit too long, softening the texture, but to Lizetta, it was just as incredibly delicious as it had been the very first time.

She still remembered when Remington had tried making her a late-night snack for the very first time—it had been this exact dish.

Back then, she had thought that such a capable, gentle man would make some lucky woman very happy one day. She just never expected that she would be that lucky woman.
