The two of them chatted as if Nathan wasn't even standing there.

Nathan's face turned a shade of sickly gray. He had always lived a blessed life.

The Dashiell family had been an elite dynasty for over a century. Born as the eldest son and grandson, Nathan had always been catered to, given whatever he wanted, and placed on a pedestal.

His parents had a loving marriage, and he had smoothly taken over the Dashiell Group without any real hardship.

When the company started to decline, Remington had stepped up and carried them back to the top, which only fueled Nathan's arrogance and self-importance.

He had never been blatantly ignored and humiliated like this in his entire life—least of all by his own son and the daughter-in-law he used to look down on.

Just as Nathan was about to explode, Joseph spoke up quickly.

"Dad, didn't you come to see Joy? Look how cute he is."

Joseph's words gave Nathan an easy out.

Nathan decided that his younger son's personality was much more likable and obedient. At least one of his kids wasn't a total disappointment.

Turning away coldly, Nathan walked toward the hospital bed.

Lizetta watched him approach the baby. Although she knew Nathan, as Joy's grandfather, probably wouldn't do anything malicious, he had never liked her. She couldn't shake the fear that his resentment toward her might bleed over to her son.

Joy was her entire world. She immediately locked her eyes on them, ready to spring up at a moment's notice.

But as Nathan leaned over the bed, he flashed a genuinely loving smile at the toddler playing with his toys.

He clapped his hands gently, his voice softening into a warm, gentle tone.

"Joy, I'm your grandpa. Will you let Grandpa give you a hug?"
