The metallic taste of blood lingered in both of their mouths.

He had kissed her with such desperate passion, only for her to bite right through his lip.

Right now, he looked like a provoked beast, letting out a furious, low growl.

"You're crazy. I refuse to believe you feel absolutely nothing for me."

Quinn had no idea where he got his delusional confidence.

Men and women were built differently. A man could separate sex from love, but for a woman, it was nearly impossible.

Once a woman was truly done with a man, her entire body and soul would violently reject his touch.

"Dante, whether you hold me or kiss me now, I feel absolutely nothing."

"Because whenever you do, all I can think about is how you touch and kiss other women. It literally makes me sick to my stomach!"

"What did you just say?"

She actually called him disgusting. Did she really hate him that much?

"I said you disgust me. Get out!"

Having run the Hayes Corporation for so long, Dante was used to absolute control. Being so ruthlessly rejected and called disgusting tonight finally pushed him over the edge, and his temper flared.

"You're going to regret this, Quinn!"

He stormed out, slamming the door behind him and leaving the room in dead silence.

Quinn walked over to the bathroom sink. She looked up at her swollen, bruised lips in the mirror.

Her clear eyes darkened with disgust.

Grabbing a nearby towel, she furiously scrubbed at her mouth, desperately trying to wipe away every last trace of him.

But her frantic scrubbing only made the swelling and redness worse.

Tara sent her a text right away. [Quinn, what happened in the group chat earlier? Was Dante fiercely defending his wife?]

Between preparing for the preliminaries and taking care of a sick toddler, Quinn had to be running on fumes.

[Take good care of my godson. We'll talk properly when I get back to Riverton.]

After ending the conversation with Tara, Quinn crawled back into bed.

Dante's lip was bleeding, but hers wasn't in much better shape. The raw, burning sting on her mouth made her wince. She pressed her lips together to ease the pain, but it didn't help.

Wasn't Dante supposedly so madly in love with Vivienne that he was just waiting for the divorce to ride off into the sunset with her? Why was he suddenly harassing her again?

She lay there, staring blankly at the ceiling until she finally figured it out.

He was a master manipulator who hated losing control of any situation.

He must have sensed how cold she had been acting lately and was terrified she'd cause a scandal right before the company went public, jeopardizing the entire Hayes Corporation.

So, pushing past whatever disgust he felt for her, he forced himself to act affectionately just to placate her.

But she didn't give a damn about the future of the Hayes Corporation. The launch ceremony was tomorrow, and she needed her rest. With that thought, she pulled the covers over her head and fell into a deep sleep.
