Quinn let out a disappointed sigh. "Honestly, I had my heart set on that spot by Sapphire Lake, but nothing there is ever listed for rent or sale."

Tara replied, "I actually drove past Sapphire Lake today. That gorgeous property we were looking at has construction scaffolding all over the courtyard. There were workers everywhere, inside and out. Looks like it's getting a massive remodel."

Quinn's heart plummeted. She had fallen deeply in love with that house, but the owner flat-out refused to sell.

If they were pouring money into a massive renovation, they definitely weren't going to put it on the market now.

She sighed again. "The owner must be updating it to move in permanently."

But Tara couldn't make sense of it. "If they plan to move in down the line, why do a full remodel right now? By the time they actually live there, the renovations will be dated."

"And the craziest part? It wasn't just the house. The entire lake shoreline around it was being heavily landscaped."

"They were building gorgeous wooden boardwalks right over the water, and planting huge floral terraces. It looked like someone was transforming the entire estate and the surrounding nature into a perfect paradise."

An investment of that scale didn't look like a vacation home meant to sit empty and gather dust.

Quinn blinked in realization. "I remember hearing that the upcoming international expo was pushing the city to completely revitalize the Sapphire Lake district. The construction you saw was probably a municipal project."

Tara nodded. "If it's a government project, then that makes total sense."

The final flicker of hope in Quinn's chest was extinguished.

It wasn't a private owner remodeling; it was a city-wide overhaul.

If it was locked into a municipal zoning plan, the chances of that property ever hitting the open market were absolute zero.

She lowered her eyes, a shadow of profound disappointment flashing across her face as she let out a quiet, defeated breath.

"Looks like that place really wasn't meant to be mine."

How could she not be heartbroken?
