Quinn and Tara kept chatting, completely oblivious to the fact that Raymond's aura had just dropped another ten degrees.

It wasn't until they finished off a plate of pastries and Quinn reached for an empty tissue box that Raymond suddenly materialized beside her, silently offering a fresh pack.

He stared down at her from his towering height, his dark eyes looking like absolute voids.

"Thanks."

Quinn took the tissues, slightly confused as to why he was just standing there staring at her. "What is it?"

Raymond's eyes flicked to her swollen, red lips. He looked away instantly, his voice laced with pure disgust. "You have something on your mouth."

Assuming she had pastry crumbs on her face, Quinn grabbed a tissue and wiped her mouth.

Watching her delicate fingers rub the tissue carefully over her lips, the lethal storm in Raymond's eyes finally settled slightly, and he walked away.

A while later, the two women finished off their sliced watermelon. Raymond walked past them again, seemingly engrossed in his phone.

He stopped dead in his tracks and turned to stare at Quinn.

Tara looked at her too and pointed. "You've got a bit of watermelon juice right there. You should wipe it."

Quinn pulled another tissue and wiped her lips raw again.

Raymond turned his head back, swiping his phone screen as he strolled away.

She thought that was the end of it, but twenty minutes later, she pulled two slices of strawberry mousse from the fridge and handed one to Tara.

"Got this from The Wishing Tree. It's our absolute favorite."

Neither of them had to worry about gaining weight, so they never held back when it came to late-night cravings.

And so, right before midnight, the two of them happily dug into their cakes with little spoons.

The velvety mousse melted beautifully on her tongue, and the rich strawberry cream made Quinn close her eyes in pure bliss.

She didn't realize a tiny speck of white cream had landed dead center on her upper lip, looking incredibly striking against her naturally red mouth.

"Tara, this is exactly what I needed. It's so good!"

While she was laughing, that familiar, imposing shadow fell over the coffee table once again.
