Raymond Moretti stood at the door of the nursery, holding a children's fairy tale book.

The stark contrast between his cold, indifferent face and the colorful storybook in his hand was undeniably jarring.

Quinn Yates simply couldn't picture him reading it to coax a child to sleep.

Out of nowhere, why had he thought to read a picture book to coax Leo to sleep?

Raymond spoke flatly, "I promised him the other day when I was convincing him to get his shot."

It suddenly dawned on Quinn. No wonder the boy had thrown such a massive tantrum that day until Raymond whispered something in his ear, instantly quieting him down enough for the nurse to administer the injection.

Seeing Quinn standing frozen, the man shot her a glance. "You should step out."

Quinn blinked. "Wait, I can't stay and listen too?"

"I only made a promise to Leo."

The man's thin lips formed a cold line, devoid of any politeness.

"If you want to listen, it's ten thousand dollars a session."

Quinn's eyes went wide. "Raymond, that's highway robbery!"

Ignoring her, the man sat down by little Leo's bed and opened the pages of the storybook with his long, slender fingers.

The little guy stared up at him with large, dark eyes brimming with anticipation and joy.

Terrified that Raymond might start charging her by the word, Quinn quickly backed out of the room.

As silence fell inside, Quinn could easily imagine the man furrowing his brows right now, trying to figure out how to get through such a long story.

After a moment, a deep, monotone voice finally drifted through the door. He was stiffly reading the story of Cinderella.

He was always a man of few words, efficient and decisive in everything he did. He had probably never spoken softly to a child in his life, let alone told a story.

His reading was awkward and slow, awkwardly forcing out one word at a time.

Sometimes he would pause for what felt like ages before squeezing out the next sentence, with absolutely zero emotional inflection. Where was the tenderness of a bedtime story?

It honestly sounded like he was grimly completing a miserable task.

As Quinn listened, the corners of her lips unconsciously curled up.

Having the cold-faced bodyguard read a story was truly asking a lot of him.
