After Dante finished speaking, he stood up from the sofa and headed for the door.
Just as he reached the entrance, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"Mother, I walked past your study earlier. Why is it locked?"
Mrs. Hayes's expression faltered for a fraction of a second before instantly returning to normal.
"One of the new maids was clumsy the other day and nearly spilled water on an important document, so I decided to lock it."
Dante nodded, didn't press the issue, and strode out of the house.
Watching him leave, Mrs. Hayes let out a long sigh of relief.
Ever since Dante had almost spotted his and Quinn's divorce papers in her study, she had been on edge. Just to be safe, she had kept the room locked.
Her son was far too brilliant and perceptive for her not to worry.
On top of that, he seemed to be paying entirely too much attention to Quinn lately, which was not a good sign at all.
The only reason she had helped Quinn secure the divorce in the first place was because she believed Dante had stopped caring for her long ago. She assumed that with a little push, Dante would finally resolve to kick the woman out.
Then, Vivienne could officially step in and become the new daughter-in-law of the Hayes family.
But looking at it now, had she been too hasty?
If Dante truly couldn't let Quinn go, the moment the divorce came to light and he realized what she had done, wouldn't she face the full force of her son's fury?
A massive headache throbbed at her temples just thinking about it.
That evening, back at Lunas Crest, Quinn was in a terrible mood and barely touched her dinner.
When her son wanted to play, she had to force herself to smile and muster up the energy to engage with him.
Eventually, Leo tired himself out and went upstairs to bathe and sleep.
Quinn sank into the sofa, tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, and buried her face in her hands, desperately trying to zone out for just a moment.
However, the jarring ring of her phone shattered the silence.
Glancing at the caller ID, she declined the call.
But the caller refused to give up, ringing again almost immediately.
This time, she answered, her tone dripping with frosty impatience.
"What is it?"
