Quinn froze at his words, a wave of sheer embarrassment washing over her as she remembered swearing she'd rather act like a stray dog than go back to Belvedere Gardens with Dante.

"Raymond, is that any way to speak to your employer?"

Trying to salvage a shred of dignity, she forced a stern expression onto her face.

"Whatever decisions I make are my own business. You have no right to question them."

But instead of continuing upstairs, the man suddenly doubled back, radiating an unspoken, lethal authority.

Even from a distance, Quinn felt completely swallowed by his chilling aura.

Before she could even stand up to retreat, he was already right in front of her.

He extended his long arms, planting his hands on the backrest on either side of her.

Just like that, she was caged between his broad chest and the sofa.

"So moving back in with your ex-husband is the attitude you should have toward me?"

They were entirely too close, his intensely masculine scent washing over her like a tidal wave.

Quinn's eyes went wide, her brain short-circuiting at his accusation.

"Raymond, aren't we just in a marriage of convenience? Why are you suddenly making a federal case out of this?"

Raymond stared down at her and delivered the raw truth. "I despise Dante."

Quinn couldn't help but mutter internally, *Well, obviously. If you liked him, we'd have a real problem.*

*Given your actual sexual preferences, I was honestly a little worried you might develop a crush on him.*

Catching the bizarrely suggestive glimmer in her eyes, Raymond's brow fiercely furrowed.

Damn it, not this again.

She always looked at him as if he were engaged in some illicit affair and she was the one peering through the keyhole.

His razor-sharp gaze bore into hers, his voice pure ice. "Are you moving back there to reconcile with him?"

Quinn rolled her eyes. "Who told you that?"

"It better not be." The tight line of his jaw looked dangerously sharp. "When we got our marriage license, we agreed it was a mutual arrangement to fulfill both our needs. Clearly, you aren't fulfilling mine."

Quinn thought about it for a second and realized he had every right to be pissed.

He had entered this fake marriage to fend off his family and cover up the fact that he was actually gay. He hadn't even introduced her to his relatives yet, and now she was bailing to live with her ex, practically abandoning her post.

Feeling slightly guilty, she reassured him, "Don't worry. Whenever you're ready, I'll happily go with you to meet your parents, relatives, and friends."
