Quinn offered a modest smile. "It's my duty as a mother."
Samuel hadn't ever been overly fond of her, but as long as she stayed in her lane, supported Dante, and took care of their son, she was a passable daughter-in-law in his book.
Besides, old Mrs. Hayes was the one who had handpicked Quinn as Dante's wife. For that reason alone, Samuel held his tongue.
When it came to Leo, however, Samuel adored the boy. He was his only grandson; how could he not spoil him rotten?
Because of that, he had shown up loaded with toys, clothes, and custom shoes.
Shopping bags were piled high, completely taking over the living room.
Quinn always made sure her son was polite, so she softly nudged him. "Leo, what do we say to Grandpa and Grandma?"
Leo flashed a sweet, toothy grin and piped up, "Thank you, Grandpa. Thank you, Grandma."
"Oh, you are just the best boy!"
Thrilled, Samuel scooped the boy up and sat him securely on his lap.
"I brought Lawrence Knight along as well. He has decades of experience managing these kinds of galas. Quinn, you've always had an eye for detail. If the staff misses anything, just point it out to him."
Quinn nodded. "Understood."
Dante was just as busy as he claimed. In the short time they had been chatting, he had paced into the side parlor to field three different calls.
"Dante, if you have fires to put out at the office, you should go," Mrs. Hayes called out. "We have everything handled here."
"Alright."
He did have a critical board meeting and an appointment with a VIP client, so he really had to leave.
Pausing at the front door, he looked back.
He watched as Quinn accepted a clipboard from Lawrence, her expression intensely focused as she reviewed the event checklist. Her profile was incredibly soft and breathtakingly beautiful.
Something shifted deep within his dark gaze.
